Dumfries, United Kingdom NHS Dumfries & Galloway Full time

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Mental Health Directorate for a motivated, dynamic and experienced nurse with highly developed clinical and leadership skills. We are looking to recruit a credible and motivated individual who meets the person specification to be considered for the Trainee Advanced Practitioner (AP) programme.

The ideal trainee AP candidate will have recent or current mental health experience at a senior level with the ability and motivation to undertake a post-graduate diploma in advanced clinical practice with independent prescribing.
Offering considerable development within the AP Pillars of Practice, the successful candidate will possess an ability to work autonomously and achieve departmental, directorate, regional and national competencies in advanced practice.
An Advanced Practitioner is an experienced and highly trained Registered Professional who manages the complete clinical care for their patient. Advanced practice is a level of practice, rather than a type or speciality of practice. APs are educated at Masters Level in advanced practice and are assessed as competent in this level of practice. As a clinical leader they have the freedom and authority to act and accept the responsibility and accountability for those actions. This level of practice is characterised by high level autonomous decision making, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment including prescribing, of patients with complex multi-dimensional problems. Decisions are made using high level expert, knowledge
and skills. This includes the authority to refer, admit and discharge within appropriate clinical areas.

The Advanced Practitioner Trainee Programme is a 2 year Higher National Diploma Certificate at Masters level in Advanced Clinical Practice. Training is both Academic and work based. Trainee Advanced Practitioners will be supernumery in practice whilst they complete the training.

The posts will be pivotal in driving forward innovation and new practices within the Mental Health Directorate and to support the parity of esteem between physical and mental health to those that access mental health services.

The post covers Dumfries and Galloway, therefore the ability to travel independently across the region is essential.

This post will require the successful applicant to have/obtain PVG Clearance.
