An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and highly motivated occupational therapist to join us in a part time, fixed term post, until 31st March 2025, in the Forensic Community Learning Disability Team.
You must be able to work sensitively with people with Learning Disabilities and complex needs who have come into contact with the criminal justice system. You will be committed to Person Centred Practice and skilled at working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary colleagues and a wider network of other services.
The role provides excellent learning opportunities, and you will be welcomed into a supportive, friendly, and highly skilled team with a positive, compassionate approach to working with people who have complex forensic needs. We work with a strong multidisciplinary ethos using the Good Lives Model, which is underpinned by formulation, clinical supervision, and reflective practice.
Main duties of the job
To manage a caseload of service users with complex mental health / learning disability needs, including evaluating referrals for intervention and priorities for treatment.
To work with service users to identify occupational therapy goals as part of the overall care plan; using specialist mental health / learning disability and occupational therapy assessment tools.
To use a broad range of standardised and non-standardised assessments appropriate to the model of practice.
To plan and implement evidence based, person centred, individual and/or group interventions, using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals.
To plan and implement the provision of a range of self-maintenance vocational and leisure based activities in an individual or group setting depending on the needs of the service users and linking with community resources where appropriate.
To monitor, evaluate and modify treatment in order to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of interventions.
To critically evaluate outcomes including assessment and management of risk within a variety of settings.
To apply clinical reasoning skills to effectively manage clinical caseloads.
To plan and implement appropriate discharge and liaison with relevant agencies.
To provide second opinions when requested.

The transformation will happen in staggered stages; Hampshire CAMHS, part of Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust joined Southern Health in February 2024, with Isle of Wight NHS Trust mental health and community services transitioning in early May 2024. The final combination of Southern Health and Solent Trusts is anticipated to occur in July 2024, when the new organisation will be formed.
Our new Trust will continue to cater to the unique needs of different communities, making healthcare across the county more accessible, as well as offering staff more opportunities for career development, training and partnership working.

Diploma/degree in Occupational Therapy - Registered with the HCPC An up-to-date CPD portfolio
