Are you an enthusiastic, effective, individual who is passionate about the delivery of excellent public sector support services. Join our dedicated professional Development Team, helping to deliver a first-class service in supporting and coordinating the production of monthly financial reports, processing grant claims, monitoring the Development team in-box including onward distribution of enquiries, maintain accurate records and data.

Objective of role

Coordinate production of monthly financial reports and play a lead role in maximizing grant income to support the council’s core objective of delivering , homes for council rent. Your duties will be to work with the Head of Housing Development and Project Managers to monitor works programmes, budgets, and the performance of our contractors during guarantee / warranty periods - ensuring our customers receive first class service in their new home.

You will be reporting to the Head of Housing Development Joe Richardson, you will bring your organisational skills and collaborative working practices to play a lead role in ensuring the development team meets our income and expenditure forecasts, also providing a high-quality service to our customers throughout building guarantee / warranty periods.

Success in the role will stem from a proactive approach and willingness to build effective relationships with customers, other departmental teams, and key stakeholders across the organisation. The environment is fast paced, with tight deadlines therefore you will need to be a good communicator, well organised, have excellent numerical and analytical skills and sound IT abilities. 

About the role 

Your role will involve close liaison with Development Project Managers and the Council’s Finance team, tracking movements of income and expenditure as sites progress from design stages through to site completion and aftercare. You’ll be trained to use our specialist development appraisal tool and cashflow management software, leading monthly reviews with project managers before finalising reports with the Head of Housing Development – making a significant contribution to the accuracy of tens of millions of pounds of forecasted expenditure every year. You will also work with the team to maximise grant opportunities, regularly liaising with the GLA on programme timings and drawing down grant in line with funding commitments. As you progress in the role, you will take on additional responsibilities for monitoring the performance of our main works contractors during guarantee periods.

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Knowledge of computer packages including Word, Outlook and Excel spreadsheets and database systems.

Ability to deal confidently, sensitively, and calmly with local residents and Councillors, senior Council officers, developers, and members of the public.

Experience of record keeping and producing quantitative and qualitative reports and demonstrate an understanding of financial controls required in the processing of invoices.

Even if you don’t have a background in a property, planning or construction field, as long as you can demonstrate transferrable skills and an enthusiasm for creating quality new homes and places, we’ll be able to train you on everything else.
