The Adult Mental Health Team (AMHT) in Witney are advertising for a Community Support Time and Recovery (STR) Worker to contribute to caring for and supporting adults with severe mental illness within the Witney and surrounding areas. 

The North & West Oxon AMHT serves a diverse and multicultural population and support adults of working age (18-65) who are experiencing severe and enduring mental illnesses requiring specialist care and treatment.

The Witney team covers the geographical area of Witney, Carterton, Eynsham, Chipping Norton and surrounding villages and the team is part of the wider AMHT patch which includes the Banbury AMHT. Both teams align with clusters of locality GP practises.

We work in collaboration with partnership agencies such as Mind, Restore, Elmore and Response and this role gives an opportunity to visit patients in their own home, in the community or their supported living accommodation.

You will join a dedicated staff group providing assessment and evidence based interventions to a wide range of people in the west of the county and the surrounding areas.

Main duties of the job

As a Support Worker you will be instrumental in delivering recovery focused interventions (for example emotional and practical support) to service users under the guidance and support of qualified mental health clinicians and team leaders. You will need to be a dedicated, patient focused and highly motivated individual, who has some experience of mental health support work, working effectively as part of the wider multi-disciplinary team.

We use the principles of a flexible assertive community treatment (FACT) model of healthcare, which enables us to be focused on the recovery of the patient through a team/multidisciplinary (MDT) approach; with expertise from doctors, social workers, nurses, occupational therapists, support workers and psychological therapies staff. We strive to provide person centred evidence-based care to patients, where possible working collaboratively with their families and carers.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Witney Team is highly supportive and committed to delivering a high-quality patient and carer journey. As a Support Worker you must be able to demonstrate Trust values in delivering care to others. You will be able to follow plans of care flexibly and dynamically in challenging and changing circumstances. Oxford Health works in partnership with third sector providers as part of the Oxford Mental Health Partnership (OMHP). Support Workers must have the skills and aptitude to work creatively and proactively with our third sector partners.

Experience of mental health services (as a worker or service user / carer) Ability to communicate effectively with service users and their families/carers who are experiencing mental health problem

Qualifications

Essential criteria

The post holder will be expected to attend and fully complete a nationally agreed induction programme and undertake an on-going training to achieve a minimum of NVQ2 / VRQ

Desirable criteria

Word processing and other IT skills. All new starters have a 6 month probationary period. This, together with the induction process, aims to create a positive supportive working environment allowing new employees to learn key elements of their role over a reasonable timescale Candidates not currently employed by the Trust who attend an interview for non-qualified Band 1-5 posts are required to undertake numeracy and literacy assessments.
