Job summary

A exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to contribute towards the provision of excellent patient care within the endocrine service. We are looking to appoint a PCOS Clinical Nurse Specialist Nurse to join the Endocrine team at UHCW.

The post holder will play a key role in developing the PCOS service and you will be expected to perform autonomously to carry out tests, specialist screening, treatments, procedures, clinics, develop audit tools and clinical protocols, participate in audit and research activites as well as develop patient/ staff education programs.

Main duties of the job

To provide direct, specialised care and advice to patients within a defined caseload, using specialist nursing skills and ensuring that care and support to patients and families is sensitive to their needs for courtesy, dignity andprivacy.

Provide Nurse led clinical activity to support the PCOS service across the Trust. This will includerunning nurse led day case Clinic. Telephone advice and general support.

Meet with the patient and,whenwished, their familyatkey stages in their pathway to provide individualised written and verbal information and support that will help them to prepare for treatmentand its outcomeatkey points in theirpathway.

To act as a patients' advocate and to give advice regarding treatment options in order that patients are able to give informedconsent.

Provide on-going support and continuityofcare to patients and their families in hospital, clinic and home settings and by telephone contact. Refer to other agencies as necessary - acting as keyworker.

Meet the patient's individualised care needs through utilising the holistic assessment processthroughout the patient pathway, promoting self- management followingtreatment.

To work in collaboration with all members of the local and Specialist multi-disciplinary teams in order to ensure the provision of a high quality, timely service for patients and their families.

Job responsibilities

Leadership/Management

In collaboration with membersofthe MDT develop patient information resources utilising the views of users and patient partnershipgroups.

Attend and participate in Divisional, Trust and Network committees and steering groups asrequired.

Evaluate the existing PCOS service, identifying gaps and making recommendations on improvements and their implementation in orderofpriority.

In collaboration with the MDT and lead clinician, to regularly review Trust policies relating to clinical practice, and to develop new policies as necessary based upon current research findings andensure effectiveimplementation.

Education and Research

Maintain a professional awareness of developments in research, nursing practice and currenttrends within the fieldsof PCOS/Endocrine Nursing.

Assess the skills and training needs of staff and in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, identify priority areas and maintain educational programs in order to deliver expert and specialist care for patients andcarers.

Promote and demonstrate evidencebasedpractice, participate audit projects and encourage and support staff thatwishto be actively involved in research and service development in line with local and national initiatives.

Identify personal training needs and career development in conjunction with the Lead Endocrine clinician.

Identifying and utilising appropriateresources.

Promoteownprofessional development by attending appropriate conferences, courses and study days, accessing and utilising relevantinformation.

To be responsible for complying withTrust andlocal Safeguarding policies andprocedures.
