We are offering a fantastic opportunity for anexperienced Dietitian to develop their specialist experience within communityneurological rehabilitation working with the teams Occupational Therapists,Physiotherapists, Psychologists, Nurses, Rehabilitation Assistants andConsultants, where a multidisciplinary approach is key to our service delivery.

Werequire a Dietitian with proven experience of working with neurologicalconditions, complex case management and multidisciplinary team working, as wellas a willingness to embrace an interdisciplinary approach.

We are looking for aself-motivated, team player who will continue to promote their professionwhilst being flexible and supportive to the needs of our passionate andcollaborative team. In return, as well as regular clinical supervision andappraisals, we have regular in-service training and other CPD opportunities.

Main duties of the job

Youwill support people with neurological conditions to optimise their nutritionalwell-being in a range of dietetic domains including oral nutrition support,weight management, diabetes, home enteral feeding, and stroke secondaryprevention, which in turn helps people meet their rehab goals.

The right personwill have skills in behaviour change and understand the physical, cognitive andcommunication barriers that our patients face in managing lifestyle changes.

You will use complex case management skills and a multidisciplinary approach tomeet the needs of will be opportunities for complex case management, audit and servicedevelopment. You will provide line management and support to Band 6 Dietitiansand deliver staff training and assess competencies in key nutritional areas in nutritional screening and delivery of first line nutritional advice.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will beresponsible for setting professional direction and delivering highly specialistclinical care to their own caseload and service within their speciality area.In doing so, they will assess, plan, deliver and evaluate patient centredprogrammes of care ensuring that they practice within their sphere ofcompetence and knowledge. The post holder will work to professional and regulatorybody codes, standards and guidance at all times ensuring that their practice,and that of others, is grounded in evidence based theoretical and practicalknowledge. They will be responsible fordeveloping new and innovative clinical practices responding to emergingknowledge and techniques and working with other services where appropriate tomake improvements. In addition, the post holder will be responsible for themainentance of professional standards and competencies within their definedclinical area,

Key Responsibilities

1. Clinical

Utilises highly developed specialised knowledgecovering a range of procedures and underpinned by relevant broad basedknowledge, experience and competence

Where appropriate to service delivery,demonstrates highly developed physical skills requiring accuracy and dexterity moving and handling techniques, clinical procedures, diagnostic tests

Demonstrates independent practice responding tosocial, scientific, clinical and ethical issues which are encountered

Makes complex judgements requiring analysis,interpretation and comparison of options by integrating complex knowledgesources in new and/or unfamiliar contexts

Responsible for overall delivery of clinicalaspects of service appropriate to field of work

Engages and actively involves the individualand, if appropriate, their family/carer, in the assessment, planning,implementation and evaluation of programmes of treatment and/or care by using person-centredtechniques to promote a culture of self care and empowerment

Works to standards of proficiency identified bytheir professional and regulatory bodies performing clinicaltreatments/procedures to a highly specialist standard

Prioritises their own workload and that of thewider team within agreed objectives deciding when to refer to others asappropriate.

Provides and receives complex, sensitive orcontentious information where motivational, persuasive, empathetic, negotiatingand reassurance skills are required whilst demonstrating an understanding ofbarriers to communication

Approaches eachindividual with care, compassion and sensitivity ensuring that these values arereflected in all aspects of role including the management of complaints andcompliments.

Skills and Attributes

Essential

Highly developed specialist theoretical and clinical knowledge appropriate to service area and profession. Workload management including delegation of tasks and day-to-day team leadership. Advanced verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills including communicating complex or potentially distressing information to patients / carers and managing conflict when appropriate. Able to demonstrate clear and inspiring clinical leadership internally and externally behaving as a role model at all times. Able to work as part of a team, co-operating to work together and in conjunction with others and willing to help and assist wherever possible and appropriate appreciating the value of diversity in the workplace. Able to work under pressure, dealing with peaks and troughs in workload managing unpredictable service demands. Positive and flexible attitude to dealing with change; able to respond to the changing needs of the patient in an appropriate and timely manner willing to change and accept change and to explore new ways of doing things and approaches.
