Job summary

Coventry and Warwickshire AHP council is committed to the development of our future AHP leadership talent, strengthening our pipeline for future AHP senior leaders. As part of this the Coventry and Warwickshire AHP Council have been successfully chosen as 1 of 3 areas to be part of a Regional AHP Workforce Fellowship Scheme. AHPs already working across Coventry and Warwickshire Integrated Care System have the opportunity to apply for the NHS England AHP Fellowship project for the Midlands Region.

Before applying candidates need to have discussed this secondment with their line manager and if they were successful have agreement to be released for the 1 September 2024 start date for the duration of one year. T hese fellowships aim to bring Allied Health Professionals into the clinical leadership team to support the Midlands in delivery of the LTWP, utilize their professional experience, work with other NHS England directorates in the region to embed the AHP Growth , Retain and Reform ambitions of the LTWP.

The fellowships create the chance for increasing knowledge of strategic thinking, innovation and will gain a broader understanding of the NHS. There is a wealth of opportunity for shared learning and personal, professional and leadership development for individuals with a specific interest in workforce transformation across health and social care, talent management, education and research.

Main duties of the job

The fellows will be supported to build and develop their professional leadership skills and will have the opportunity to attend key regional and national meetings that focus on workforce development. Additionally, the successful fellow will benefit from the learning and experience from previous years' AHP fellow as well as a bespoke education package tailored to their 360 feedback.

Fellows will be part of a network of interprofessional leadership fellows and be able to present their work at educational and other healthcare forums.

Fellows will also get a financial contribution of £3000 towards an academic leadership course.

Key Performance Indicators for all AHP Leadership Fellowships:

Support the Regional Head of Allied Health Professions to implement and embed national and regional deliverables in relation to the AHP workforce supply and demand through Integrated Care Systems

Promote and support the development of AHP Leadership across the Midlands in accordance with national initiatives.

Further develop the Midlands AHP Network to ensure all key stakeholders are kept up to date regarding the national and regional AHP strategic direction

The work programme for the fellows will align to the three components of the LTWP (Grow, Retain, Reform) to support delivery of key initiatives already underway within the team

About us

Coventry & Warwickshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) is a newly formed Organisation since April 2022. Our ICB is responsible for commissioning NHS services on behalf of people in Coventry and Warwickshire. In consultation with local partners, it plans the delivery of services in a way that both meets local health and care needs and reduces inequalities between different groups. As part of our commitment to supporting the workforce across the Integrated Care System we are co-ordinating the role of the Regional NHS England Workforce, Training and Education AHP Workforce Fellow on behalf of our health and care providers across Coventry and Warwickshire. The successful candidate will remain employed by their seconded organisation for the duration of the fellowship.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The post holder will lead and progress a NHS England WTE specified programme of work providing programme management of identified functions, teams and programme work streams, leading delivery of required outcomes within appropriate governance and assurance, monitoring progress, and managing risks and issues to ensure successful delivery.

To support the wider project team to build and preserve trusted stakeholder relationships and networks of influence among external, senior stakeholders to support the promotion of the regional and national workforce transformation agenda.

To engage with and work in collaboration with the project team and other relevant stakeholders in clinical and strategic positions to develop a sustainable strategy that supports the growth of the AHP workforce across the region, sharing best practice for AHP workforce models and providing senior leadership to support organisational buy in.

To work in collaboration with existing networks and teams to review, interpret and make recommendations as to what additional structures are required at a regional level to help develop the AHP workforce.

To develop and work with AHP representatives from across the region whose primary focus will be to increase workforce supply and addressing the associated barriers/challenges, role modelling positive behaviours (partnership working, whole system understanding, positive / constructive outlook, customer focus etc.) and promoting a supportive, team-working culture, setting the tone for the wider team.

To lead programmes of work within the project to ensure objectives are achieved and actions taken to ensure a successful delivery of the outcomes, using sound decision making, analysis and judgement in relation to these.

To identify areas for policy development and implementation specific to AHP workforce programmes which will have positive outcomes for workforce and patients.

To identify and report any project related risks to the AHP council, utilising the appropriate reporting mechanisms, co-operating with those with designated responsibility in the investigation and management of identified risks.

To support and drive the AHP workforce and educational development opportunities and oversee the delivery of robust workforce and educational pathways.

To review and utilise themes and trends from workforce, research, development and education performance metrics, university and student feedback to inform the AHP objectives and education strategy.

To represent AHPs at regional, national and international events if required including presentations and delivery of reports

To encourage and actively promote research and audit within AHPs professions contributing as necessary in line with strategic priorities.

To ensure that AHP workforce, education and training policies are reviewed and developed in line with national best practice guidance and/or legislation and that an assurance framework is in place to monitor compliance.

To provide training and education around specific workforce, training and education areas for AHPs and other key stakeholders across the Region.

Essential

oRegistered Allied Health Professional oEducated to Masters level or equivalent oDemonstrable evidence of continuous professional development of relevance to practice development oIn-depth knowledge and understanding of practice education issues in an acute trust setting oOperational experience in an AHP team oDemonstrates understanding of the NHS values and the role they play in delivery of workforce and education Sound knowledge of the NHS strategic agenda together with an understanding of the current issues in AHP policy and practice Must be able to prioritise own work effectively and be able to direct activities of others.
