Main duties of the job

Students must successfully completethe 50% taught theory and 50% practice elements of the programme before theycan register and practice as a Health Visitor.

Successfulcandidates will study with leading degree apprenticeship provider MMU and will be expected to be able to travel to both theirplace of work/placements that will be situated in the Warrington or Halton areaand the University. Therefore, a full driving licence anduse of a vehicle are essential.

Throughout the SCPHN programme, thestudent must experience practice in a range of different settings and areas ofpractice to enable them to develop understanding of the breadth of SCPHNpractice.

To develop an understanding of theprinciples of working in partnership with others to prevent the occurrence ofneeds and risks related to health and well-being.

Students must be able to demonstratea good knowledge of local and national policies and how to apply them ineveryday practice.

To enable the Specialist CommunityPublic Health Nursing student to develop the skills and competencies to:

Provide comprehensive assessments of the healthneeds of clients.

Raise awareness about health and social well-beingand related factors, services, and resources.

Raise awareness about the actions that groups, andindividuals can take to improve their health and social well-being.

Develop, sustain, and evaluate collaborative work.

Collaborate in a multi-disciplinary environment toensure children are safeguarded.

Develop capacity and confidence of individuals andgroups, including families and communities, to influence and use availableservices, information, and skills, acting as an advocate where appropriate

Identify and evaluate service provision and supportnetworks for individuals, families, and groups within in the local area.

Current First Level Registration Number must be provided in application. If no box, please include in supporting information. Meet NMC Standards for entry for specialist community education and practice: All applicants must be a Registered Nurse or Midwife with 120 academic credits at Level 5 for BSc Or 120 academic credits at Level 6 (APL will also be considered) for PGDip. Up to date Professional Portfolio demonstrating evidence of reflective practice Certificates must be provided for English and Maths, at Grade C or above (or Functional Skills Level 2). No other English or Maths qualifications are acceptable, including Access to Nursing/Midwifery. Applicants MUST have actual copies of their certificates and MUST bring them to the interview. Applicants that they must supply suitable professional references to both the Employing Trust and the University.
