Job overview

The post holder would contribute to the Trust's safeguarding agenda, including child protection, Midwifery safeguarding, Mental Capacity Act, Domestic Abuse, Adult Safeguarding and PREVENT agendas within the Trust, in line with National and local guidance. They will work as part of the Trust safeguarding teams, Adult, Children and Midwifery supporting robust, inquisitive interrogation and assessment of referrals, collating health information, and promoting the “Think Family” approach for the protection of children, young people and adults at risk.

The post holder would support the delivery of the safeguarding training to clinical and non-clinical staff across the Trust. They would also be involved in staff supervision in relation to the delivery and maintenance of safeguarding standards in the inpatient setting and represent Named Nurses as requested for internal and external meetings.

Main duties of the job

The post has a trust-wide remit and will be split between the Safeguarding Adults and Safeguarding Children’s service on a 60/40 basis. What this entails is to work 60% for Adults safeguarding and 40% for Children’s safeguarding. Midwifery safeguarding cases would be referred through the existing referral pathway. The post holder will be expected to travel between Maidstone Hospital and Tunbridge Wells Hospital.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Once your pre-employment checks have been completed you will be contacted by Recruitment to arrange your start date which will be in line with one of our Corporate Inductions. 

Following your Corporate Induction you will be expected to attend the Trust’s 2-week Induction Programme for RNs, NAs, RMs, ODPs and Paramedics. The programme is full-time (please email if this is problematic) and will involve travel to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area, classroom-based sessions and e-learning.

Please note that appointment to this post will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure & Barring Service Check at Enhanced Level. (Enhanced level now includes regulated checks against vulnerable adults and children)

Essential criteria

•Registered Nurse, Midwife or Registered AHP or Registered Social Worker, Registered Health Visitor or School Nurse

Desirable criteria

Post registration safeguarding training Leadership and Management qualifications Health Visitor/School Nurse/Community Nurse qualification

Experience/ Knowledge

Essential criteria

Safeguarding experience in an acute or community environment Experience of working in a safeguarding role Expert knowledge and experience of current Safeguarding legislation and guidance Extensive post registration experience working with children or adults at risk in a variety of fields Experience in facilitating/teaching complex concepts to both large and small groups Undertaken MCA/DOLS training to increase knowledge Undertaken up to Level 3 Safeguarding Adults and Children’s training

Desirable criteria

Experience as a clinical supervisor Experience of developing and undertaking clinical audit Good knowledge in one area of work with the ability to increase knowledge in other areas of the safeguarding agendas
