Job summary

We are seeking a finance professional who can bring theirextensive experience and initiative from either a private or public sectorbackground, not necessarily healthcare. You'llbe an excellent candidate if you are excited about the opportunities to improvehealth outcomes for the local population, have an appreciation of thechallenges of finance and financial sustainability in the Social Enterprise and/orSME sector and have the passion to develop Heartbeat into being aninspirational part of the primary care landscape, locally and across theregion.

Main duties of the job

Heartbeat has recently undergone a period of reflection and refocusto strengthen and develop our organisation, enhance our services and bettermeet the needs of our communities. Thisprocess has included a refresh of our board and governance structures and we areseeking to appoint a qualified and experienced finance professional to join ourboard to provide assurance, guidance and challenge as a Non-Executive Director. This role will support us with our vision forthe organisation and its effective service delivery.

As a member of the board of five directors, and withexcellent working relationships with our Executive director and small financeteam, you will have the opportunity to influence and shape our financial situationand boost the skill of our board in this critical area of business.

Time commitment: OurNon-Executive Directors spend a minimum of one day a month in connection withboard meetings and on work for the Company after an induction phase.

Job responsibilities

Provideindependent scrutiny of the Executive Management of the business and advice tothe Board. Bring agenuinely independent and external perspective to stimulate board debate andenhance decision-making. Provide value-addedinput to strategy and strategic development Act at alltimes in the best interests of the company

Responsibilities

Execute the responsibilities of a company directoraccording to lawful and ethical standards. Contribute to the strategic planning and development ofHeartbeat. Review, approve and monitor the strategic plan Check, monitor and challenge organisational capabilityconcerning stated objectives; Advocate for the social enterprise culture of theorganisation consistent with our organisational values. Ensure that patient and public interest and compliancewith the Heartbeat community interest statement is at the heart oforganisational decision making. Monitor and constructively challenge the performance ofHeartbeat in meeting agreed goals and improvement targets. Be aware of changes in health and social care policyand assess their impact upon Heartbeat's strategic plan. Seek assurance and provide challenge as to Heartbeat's legal,ethical, risk, environmental and regulatory compliance. Act as a catalyst for change and challenge the statusquo when appropriate. Maintain the highest ethical standards, probity andintegrity of the company. Review financial performance against targets. Ensure that financial controls, quality processes andsystems of risk management are robust, and that the Board is kept fullyinformed through timely and relevant information. Seek assurance that the Executive Director and SeniorManagement team are effectively managing operational risk. Oversee the effective delegation of any boardresponsibilities. Review any significant changes to the companystructures. Take part in the appointment of executive director(s)and other senior leaders as appropriate. Play an active role in helping the Executive Directormanage the senior and executive team. Ensure that Heartbeat meets it obligations as an equalopportunities employer and works towards achieving fair representation of allsections of its community at all levels of its management and Board. Seek opportunities to expand the scope of Heartbeat toincrease market share and develop new markets. Play an appropriate role in building externalrelationships with stakeholders including Shareholding Practices, General Practiceleaders and partners in the local Health and Care Partnership (ICB) includingthe Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) Undertake specific and relevant training for your role. Good understanding of clinical governance and its implementation Experience working with a range of stakeholders including Senior Trust Executives Previous experience of working in, with or alongside a GP Federation Experience of delivering a range of services across multiple sites. Experience of operating successfully in a complex political environment Expert in advocating for General Practice with a range of stakeholders
