Do you want to develop new and enhance your existing clinical, academic and leadership skills as a Specialty Doctor working in a Trust with a proven track record of supporting SAS Doctors to achieve their full potential and occupy senior roles?

A substantive Specialty Doctor post has arisen through the development of a new day service, based at Mill Lodge in York for young people from across the region. As a senior doctor in this new service, you will improve the holistic care of the physical and mental health of young people and also support the wider ambition of collating clinical, academic and leadership expertise to improve pathways that run across inpatient and community based care.

The successful applicant will provide clinical leadership and senior medical input into the day unit which will initially accept up to 4 young people with eating disorders from across the region, including York, North Yorkshire, East Riding and Humber. The intention is to gradually increase capacity up to a maximum of 8 young people. The inpatient unit at Mill Lodge accepts up to 10 young people, the majority of which are eating disordered. This new role is primarily based with the day service but there will also be opportunities to gain experience of working with young people admitted to hospital through providing medical cover for Mill Lodge inpatient unit if required, including helping to cover for medical colleagues who are on leave.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be a key member of the senior leadership and clinical service which aspires to provide comprehensive and holistic care of the physical and mental health of young people with eating disorders within a multi-disciplinary team model. As a senior doctor, you will contribute to the remit of the day service which is to provide:
Support to young people and staff from an acute day hospital setting - this may be direct or indirect (e.g. telephone consultation, staff training/coaching). Support to young people within the community, offering an enhancement of care/consultation with community CAMHS Eating Disorders teams who's approach is centred on Family therapy. A day treatment service offer young people come into the service for up to 6 weeks of interventions and treatments which will enhance the assessment and care planning process above the offer currently available within the community. The day service is aimed particularly at the more complex young people who need a broader and more bespoke assessment and care plan. Service development by learning how to best interface with community teams, and to share the learning with colleagues across the region to support a collaborative and integrative approach. A strong clinical governance team within the day service and Mill Lodge more broadly that feeds into the service line and unified clinical governance processes within the Trust.
