Job overview

THE POST- Trust Grade in Emergency Medicine (ST3+)

We are advertising for 12 month fixed term Emergency Medicine posts at York Hospital

NB: We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive a high volume of applicants. Therefore, please apply early to avoid any disappointment.

All applicants must have full registration and a licence to practice with the GMC, as well as current Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification

York Emergency Department has recently undergone an exciting £18 million development to offer high quality modern facilities designed to create the best care for our patients.

The development has created a new Emergency Floor, incorporating the Emergency Department & Emergency Assessment Unit - including a modern 8 bay resus area. The Emergency Floor operates under a new clinical model, focusing on up front senior assessment and specialty review ensuring patients receive timely emergency care and early specialty review. This new clinical model provides exciting opportunities for Doctors at ST3/4+ level to receive a high level of support senior colleagues whilst being given the exposure to a wide range of Emergency Medicine presentations.

Main duties of the job

We welcome candidates who have started a career in Emergency Medicine and would like to develop further. The Higher Trust Grade post offers an exciting opportunity to obtain further experience to continue a successful career in the specialty.

Plans are in place to move to self-rostering in 2024, offering our doctors greater flexibility and choice, enabling greater control over their rosters and allowing improvement in individuals work-life balance. The current Rota is a 15-week rolling Rota consisting of day, evening & night shifts.

We have a great team consisting of Trust grade tier doctors, deanery rotations (FY1, FY2, ST1-ST6, ACCS, GPSTR and Junior Clinical Fellows) plus specialty doctors, associate specialists, and consultants. We also have a fantastic team of EMP's & ACP's.

You will have excellent shop floor support from enthusiastic senior and middle grade doctors and the Rota is carefully designed to minimise fatigue, with night shifts being a maximum of four shifts in a row and nearly all day shifts are capped at 8 hours.

Working for our organisation

York & Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides a comprehensive range of acute hospital, community and specialist healthcare services for approximately 800,000 people living in and around York, North Yorkshire, North East Yorkshire and Ryedale - an area covering 3,400 square miles, and which includes Scarborough and Bridlington.

Our mission is to be a valued and trusted partner within our care system, delivering safe effective care to the population we serve.

We're situated in a fantastic part of the country: home to two national parks, a beautiful coastline, and the city of York, which is consistently voted one of the best to live in the UK.

It's our privilege to be the largest provider of healthcare in the region and we are incredibly proud of our 8,500 staff, working across 9 hospital sites, supporting safe, high quality patient-centred care on a day-to-day basis.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Whilst the posts available do not form part of the formal training programme, we endeavour to offer post holders the same training and educational opportunities as colleagues in training, including paid study leave. You will be provided with clinical and educational supervision, to enable your personal and portfolio development. There is an active Postgraduate Medical Education Centre on both sites, as part of a dynamic Education and Training directorate, which is developing multi-professional training.
