Z/OS Mainframe Systems Programmer

Sheffield, UK

 

NTT DATA is seeking an experienced Z/OS System Programmer to work with a major banking client. The role involves upgrading and supporting the z/OS operating system and ISV products, mainly from IBM and Computer Associates (CA) and z/OS Automation Support. The project involves supporting a large-scale Mainframe system transformation, we are looking to transform the Mainframe environment by introducing automation, Continuous development, and continuous improvement into operations across the Z/OS mainframe environment.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Upgrading, maintaining, and supporting the z/OS operating system
  • Upgrading, maintaining, and supporting ISV products particularly from the vendors; IBM and Computer Associates (CA)
  • Installation, configuration, and administration of automation tools such as IBM System Automation for z/OS and IBM NetView
  • Develop and maintain DevOps pipelines where z/OS processes follow CI/CD practices, aiming to increase the software quality and delivery speed, thru highly automated processes.
  • Modernize and optimize legacy processes (Rexx and/or Ansible Automation)
  • Working closely with the other Engineering teams, to ensure that the systems are built to be stable, available, up to date and running as effectively and efficiently as possible.

 

Key Skills 

  • The successful candidate will ideally have more than ten years of z/OS systems programming experience  
  • Experience with Z/OS automation: NetView, System Automation
  • Should have very strong Parallel SYSPLEX skills. 
  • Extensive experience of installing many (not just a few) IBM and CA, BMC and Broadcom products  
  • Should have ideally worked in a Bank or organisations with large installations. 
  • Should be confident, able to work independently and start contributing from day one  
  • Must have excellent problem-solving skills and be a true team player. 
  • Will need provide off hours support for the implementation of software changes, when required. 
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills; an ability to communicate with impact, ensuring complex information is articulated in a meaningful way to wide and varied audiences.  

 

Required Skills 

  • z/OS, SMP/E, TSO/ISPF, USS, SDSF, JCL, RACF
  • z/OS Automation and modernisation experience
  • Scripting/coding experience: JCL, REXX, Python, Ansible, Ant and/or Shell
  • Worked in large Parallel SYSPLEX concepts/environments. 
  • Installation of several different IBM and CA products
