Job Summary

The z/OS Systems Hardware Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of the UK Mainframe Processor estate within a multi-LPAR, multi-site Sysplex environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and maintain the UK Mainframe Processor estate, ensuring optimal performance and uptime.
  • Upgrade the UK Mainframe estate to the next generation of IBM Processor, ensuring seamless transition and minimal disruption.
  • Upgrade Microcode levels on Mainframe Processors, Coupling Facilities, HMCs, and TKEs, ensuring compatibility and reliability.
  • Build and activate IODF/IOCDS configurations in support of changes to the Storage estate and other key projects.
  • Update PR/SM definitions via HMC, ensuring accurate and up-to-date configurations.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in mainframe hardware support and configuration, with a strong understanding of z/OS, HMC, HCD, TSO/ISPF, SDSF, JCL, CHPID Mapping tool, and JES2.
  • Knowledge of the latest IBMz processor generations, including z14, z15, and z16.
  • Experience with Sysplex and Coupling Facility knowledge, with a strong understanding of troubleshooting and problem determination.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to build effective networks across business areas, developing relationships based on mutual trust and encouraging others to do the same.
  • Experience with creating and deploying comprehensive business/operating plans, with a proven track record of delivering desired results.
  • Comprehensive understanding of risk management, with experience ensuring own and others' compliance with relevant regulatory processes.
