Job Summary

The z/OS Systems Hardware Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of the Mainframe Processors within a multi-LPAR, multi-site Sysplex environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and maintain the UK Mainframe Processor estate, ensuring optimal performance and uptime.
  • Upgrade the UK Mainframe estate to the latest IBM Processor generations, including z14, z15, and z16.
  • Configure and activate IODF/IOCDS configurations to support changes to the Storage estate and other key projects.
  • Update PR/SM definitions via HMC to ensure seamless operation.
  • Collaborate with the team to troubleshoot day-to-day incidents and problems, and provide out-of-hours support for hardware changes and other projects.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in mainframe hardware support and configuration.
  • Knowledge of z/OS, HMC, HCD, TSO/ISPF, SDSF, JCL, CHPID Mapping tool, JES2.
  • Knowledge of the latest IBMz processor generations, including z14, z15, and z16.
  • Sysplex and Coupling Facility knowledge.
  • Excellent problem determination skills and ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex information in a meaningful way.
  • Ability to build effective networks across business areas and develop relationships based on mutual trust.
  • Comprehensive understanding of risk management and experience ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory processes.

Desirable Skills

  • Automation, GDPS, Rexx, and CLIST skills.
  • OSA-ICC definition/configuration.
  • Basic understanding of DWDM.
  • Knowledge of Disk/Tape infrastructure.
