Our technology teams in the UK work closely with HSBC's global businesses to help design and build digital services that allow our millions of customers around the world, to bank quickly, simply and securely. We also run and manage our IT infrastructure, data centres and core banking systems that power the world's leading international bank.

Our multi-disciplined teams include: DevOps engineers, IT architects, front and back end developers, infrastructure specialists, cyber experts, as well as project and programme managers.

We work in small, agile DevOps teams with colleagues around the world from our offices at the Bluefin Building in Southwark, our global headquarters in Canary Wharf, and multiple other locations around the UK including Sheffield, Leeds, Barnsley and Birmingham.

Following extensive investment across our Technology and Digital domains and with plans for continued expansion throughout 20nn and beyond, we are currently seeking a Mainframe Senior Engineer IWS to join HSBC Technology.

Job Description

Digital Business Automation are a global function within CTO with approximately 280 staff in multiple locations. We are responsible for defining and implementing the strategy for a number of critical products across the organization, as well as ensuring their availability, recoverability and security.

This role will be part of the Mainframe Workload Automation team supporting the IBM IWS product. It is a senior role within the team and the role holder is expected to be able to contribute to the product strategy, roadmap and development. It is also expected that this role will help support and mentor the more junior members of the team as well as providing cover for the Product Owner.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain the IBM IWS product
  • Work closely with the user community and stakeholders to understand their business imperatives
  • Define the product roadmap along with the Product Owner
  • Mentor junior members of staff
  • Work with the technology Product Owners to agree the business outcomes we want to achieve
  • Help define ways of working in order to manage an SDLC pipeline and the associated controls
  • Provide on-call support as part of a team rota

Requirements

  • Mush have experience of administering and maintaining IWS (v9.1 or later)
  • Extensive experience of JCL
  • Experience of ACF2 and RACF security controls
  • Practical knowledge of Dynamic Workload Console
  • Ability to translate technology features into understood business benefits
  • Understanding of Service Management principles (e.g. ITIL)
  • Excellent written and verbal English
  • Evidence of cost versus value decision making
  • Experience of influencing senior management with effective business driven value Propositions

Additional (Optional) Requirements

  • Experience of CA7 Workload Automation
  • WAPL and/or REXX programming
  • Understanding of Agile methodologies (Kanban, SCRUM etc)
