An opportunity has become available within the breast unit at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS trust for a role as a Breast Specialist Nurse.

The post holder will support the clinical leadership, co-ordination and the delivery and development of the One Stop Breast Service, Breast Pain Service, Breast Follow up Clinics and if desired Breast Care Nurse service provision alongside the current lead specialist nurse.

Applicants who do not meet all of the essential criteria may be considered for shortlisting. Under these circumstances appointment will be at a Band 6 to reflect the training status and will remain until completion of qualification and preceptorship.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be provided with the support to achieve the clinical leadership, co-ordination and the delivery and development One Stop Breast Service, Breast Pain Service, Breast Follow up Clinics and if desired Breast Care Nurse service provision alongside the current lead specialist nurse. Support will be provided in order for the applicant to achieve the clinical skills necessary for initial patient consultation, clinical assessment, nurse prescribing, radiology investigation requesting.

Provide leadership and specialist clinical expertise within a multidisciplinary framework to deliver effective, evidence based patient focused care encompassing national standards for patient safety and monitoring. The role will also involve managing practice developments, clinical safety and progression of the service alongside the multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will be trained to contribute to the facilitation of the planning, delivery and evaluation of care pathways for a designated group of patients, will be responsible for timely patient pathways and will liaise with other professionals on day to day operational issues, with a view to undertake the role of service improvement lead.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

NMC Level One Registration Nurse with substantial clinical knowledge and experience of care management. Degree in Nursing Breast Clinical skills level 7 Nurse prescribing level 7 Leadership / management qualification or substantial experience.

Desirable

Masters Psychology level 2

Experience

Essential

Substantial post-registration experience Evidence of on-going professional and practice development. Evidence of service improvement Experience of collaborative working within the MDT

Desirable

Previous experience in working with patients in a breast service. Teaching experience. Be clinically experienced in nurse led clinics. Experience in providing counselling to patients and to support staff Experience of clinical audit/benchmarking.

Skills

Essential

Proven ability to plan and manage workload by setting objectives and priorities. Commitment to developing evidence based practice and research Effective advanced communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work under pressure/meet tight deadlines whilst delivering high quality work.

Desirable

Experience of teaching/training. Experience in clinical leadership skills. Presentation skills
