My name is Damian Madden and I'm theacting Service Manager for NHS Kirklees Talking Therapies.

We provide psychologicaltherapy and treatment for people with common mental health problemsthroughout Kirklees. As part of a national initiative, we are looking to offer Employment Support toclients using the service.

An exciting opportunity has now arisen forEmployment Advisors to offer support to clients using the service to helppeople gain work or to maintain their current jobs.This will allow us to not only focus on helping clients to recover, but to assistpeople to maintain and add to their functioning in an important aspect of theirlives.

Main duties of the job

As an Employment Advisor, you will assist serviceusers suffering from common mental health problems with their employment needs.

You will liaise with managers, senior clinicians and therapists within the teamto ensure clients are on the correct employment support pathway as well asbuild relationships with third sector organisations and stakeholders.

You will also be required to attend regular clinical and management supervisionand engage in continued professional development.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Thepostholder will manage a caseload of 25 to 35 service users within The Barnsley TalkingTherapies service. The Employment Advisor will work with the clinician and theclient to produce a personalised action plan to ensure that psychologicaltreatment and employment support are provided to support the individual toimprove their mental health and meet their stated employment goals, which maybe to improve their current employment or find alternative work.

The role is to work directly with all relevantstakeholders; including, service users, mental health staff in community teams,Vocational teams and local partner agencies including JobcentrePlus, Work & Health Programme providers, employers, trade unions andemployment agencies to support people to stay in employment and secureemployment opportunities. A key part of the role is to actively engage with employers to enableservice users to gain paid employment and to sustain this with ongoing supportwithin employment as required.

Person Specification

Special Knowledge/Skills

Essential

Knowledge of disability and mental health issues. Knowledge of policies/ legislation in relation to employment. Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to build a rapport with a range of people who may present with challenging behaviour at times. Ability to build trusting and productive relationships with people in a range of settings. Evidence of effectively managing time and with excellent organisational skills. Ability to adjust plans in response to changing individual needs.

Desirable

Good understanding of the principles and practice of supported employment. Able to use IT systems and tools such as MS Word, Powerpoint and Excell. Knowledge and experience of the IPS approach or other vocational or employment provision. To be have experience in teaching and presenting information to a range of audiences.

Qualifications

Essential

Educated to NVQ level 3 standard or equivalent knowledge, training and experience.

Desirable

Training in Individual placement support (IPS) approach. Level 3 Diploma in Employability Services or equivalent.

Experience

Essential

Demonstrate experience of working with disadvantage groups who have accessed similar services. Substantial knowledge relating to recent legislation in relation to mental health. Substantial experience of working with people around employment and/or vocational needs. Experience of working collaboratively in a team. Computer literate. Experience of writing reports.

Desirable

Experience of dealing with Mental Health Services. Experience or knowledge of working with supported employment approaches. Experience of writing clinical notes and reports. Experience of reporting back to multi-agency teams or partners. Experience of partnership working, negotiation and liaison work with other agencies. Experience of teaching or training others in specific approaches. Experience of working on opening up job opportunities with a range of employers and supporting people in these settings.

Physical Attributes

Essential

Ability to undertake the duties and demands of the post. A satisfactory sickness record over the previous 2 years (subject to the need to act with fairness and equality of opportunity, particularly where the sickness is related to a disability and/or pregnancy).

Persistence and resilience to not give up despite setbacks and frustrations. Respond positively to challenges and maintain an optimistic approach To use listening skills to be patient and empathetic to the needs of service users. To be able to work with a wide range of people from service users, employers and mental health professionals both one to one and as part of a team. To be able to work well with people who may experience emotional distress. A Current driving licence and access to a car during the working day is essential (reasonable adjustments will be considered for any applicants who are unable to drive due to a disability).
