Job summary

We are looking to appoint a Clinical Gender Specialist in Gender Healthcare to join the West of England Gender IdentityClinic based at The Laurels in Exeter. This is a new substantive post followingsubstantial investment in the clinic and will form part of a new Clinical Gender Specialist Team.

The West of England Specialist Gender IdentityClinic is a centre of excellence for the provision of advice and treatment forgender dysphoria for people aged 18 and older. We accept referrals from acrossthe country and provide a personalised care and treatment plans to meet ourpatients individual needs.

Our multi-disciplinary team works with people whohave a wide variety of needs related to their gender identity.

The successful candidate will possess excellentinterpersonal skills and have a flexible approach to service delivery. We arelooking for a team player who enjoys working in a multi-disciplinary settingwith highly experienced and skilled staff.

Anessential criteria for this role is a willingness to undertake new clinicalpractices, education and training that will enhance service delivery, includingthe Post Graduate Certificate in Gender Healthcare and/or the Non-MedicalPrescribing qualification (for those who are registered nurses).

Main duties of the job

The role involves monitoring gender affirminghormones for trans male, trans female and non-binary patients. Part of thiswill involve close liaison with GP practices anywhere in England, as theLaurels is a national service. Excellent communication skills are vital in thisrole.

The post holder will be part of the teamproviding a service to patients and, on occasions their families, includingdirect and indirect clinical work. You will be required to support the MedicalLead and Senior Clinical Nurse Specialist in service development, and contributeto overall Clinical Governance of the service.

Clinical Gender Specialists (CGS) areclinicians who provide a defined level of specialist assessment, support, andaccess to interventions for transgender patients attending the Laurels.

As a CGS you will work as part of theservice to support patients in line with the NHS England national servicespecification.

The role requires a clinician withspecialist skills to assess patients needs, and formulate treatment planswithin a multi-disciplinary framework.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Professional qualification (General/Mental Health/Learning Disability) to degree level or equivalent. Maintains current registration with NMC or relevant Professional body. Willingness to undertake new clinical practices, education and training that will enhance service delivery, including the Post Graduate Diploma in Gender Healthcare and/or the Non-Medical Prescribing qualification (for those who are registered nurses).

Desirable

Non-Medical Prescriber. Relevant Masters degree or working towards. Demonstrate continued professional development to maintain professional registration. Training in transgender healthcare. Training in gender diversity.

Knowledge

Essential

Knowledge of the Interface of psychological and physical aspects of healthcare.

Desirable

Knowledge of the Trusts Non-Medical prescribing policy and local procedure. Knowledge of the legal, social, and societal aspects of gender diversity. Knowledge of prescribing and/or supervising the prescription of gender affirming medical treatment.

Experience

Essential

Experience of individual patient case management responsibility. Substantial experience of MDT working. Demonstrates satisfactory clinical expertise for the banding.

Desirable

Experience of clinical working with transgender and non-binary patients.
