Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic Band 7 Specialist Children's Occupational Therapist to join our team, within the Physical and Sensory Pathway. The post is based in East Devon encompassing beautiful countryside, the Jurassic coastline and the urban areas of Exeter and Exmouth.

You will act as a source of OT expertise providing clinical supervision and specialist assessment/intervention. The post holder will hold a caseload working across the different environments such as home, school and clinic.

You will be joining our friendly Eastern OT team and also be part of the Devon and Torbay OT Leadership team, where we all work together to create new opportunities and improved outcomes for the children we work alongside across the county.

Our Physical and Sensory Pathway team encompasses both physiotherapy and speech and language therapy enabling strong opportunities for close joint working. CFHD's close-knit relationships also extend to other pathways, such as Neurodiversity and Learning Disability, placing the child at the heart of our practice

Main duties of the job

To provide Specialist OT assessment and intervention for a caseload of complex cases. Provide support and clinical supervision to OT staff across CFHD. Work within the Physical and Sensory Pathway providing support to Occupational Therapists working across a range of pathways. Screen and triage referrals and ensure a strengths-based approach to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions to support the complex packages of care for children with additional needs in the community. Contribute to risk assessment and care planning in collaboration with children, young people and their carers. Provide specialist occupational therapy assessment, advice and interventions to children, young people and their families and to hold a caseload of children with complex needs. Provide case management of an identified caseload of children and young people with highly complex long-term conditions and complex needs by utilising and promoting evidence-based care.

CFHD provides integrated care and treatment for children and young people across physical and mental health which are provided by Torbay and South Devon Foundation Trust and Devon Partnership Trust. We are working closely with other organisations and providers to ensure we deliver locality and county-wide based integrated access to all of our services, based on the i-Thrive Framework, in response to consultation with our service users and communities.

CFHD works closely with our local universities of Plymouth, Exeter & the Peninsula Medical School where we support students in clinical training placements and in addition support our own staff to undertake post graduate training.

Our integrated care and treatment has been developed and refined in partnership with children, young people and their families/carers.

This will involve lifting heavy and awkward shapes, including getting the equipment in/out of a car To deal sensitively with patients and relatives that have high levels of distress anxiety and aggression that may be caused by pain, behavioural, cognitive or physical impairment Imparting information concerning diagnosis and poor prognosis of physical recovery to patients and their relatives. This may involve informing patients that they may be unable to achieve their previousfunctional level, or challenging beliefs about perceived level of disability Demonstrate advanced clinical reasoning skills
