Following the successful expansion of our SEND 0-18 Occupational Therapy team we are excited to be able to offer a rare opportunity for a Senior Band 6 OT, to become part of our county wide service working alongside Devon County Council's 0-25 team to fulfil the Section F Occupational Therapy component within a young person's Education and Health Care Plan. The successful applicant would be a valued part of this growing Occupational Therapy team, as well as our wider Devon Occupational Therapy Service.


This role is county wide and driving to a child's learning settings is part of the working day. Deliver specialist occupational therapy advice, assessment and interventions to a client group of children and young people experiencing a range of difficulties in maximising their occupational performance within different settings
Interventions may include direct therapy, coaching or training, provision or recommendations for suitable adaptive equipment where this is a statutory provision and provide specialist guidance and recommendations for home or school adaptations
Supervise and support Occupational Therapy Clinical Support Workers and/or Integrated Therapy assistants
Mentor/ clinically supervise newly qualified Occupational Therapists and Band 4/5 staff as required
Participate in the provision of student placements
Participate in clinical audits and clinical research as appropriate

Degree in Occupational Therapy
To work within trust clinical guidelines and Royal College of OT and HCPC standards. To have working knowledge of national andlocal standards and monitor own quality and safety of practice.
Demonstrate effective communication skills and experiences of using these with children, young people and families.
Ability to carry out assessments and treatments with children who may have severe physical, cognitive, behavioural and sensory impairment and poor mobility with frequent intense physical effort on a daily basis e.g. handling of heavy body parts.
oDegree in Occupational Therapy
oDiploma level specialist training or experience
oPost-graduate certified courses specific to children's needs (e.g. Sensory training ADOS, 3di etc)
oTo work within trust clinical guidelines and Royal College of OT and HCPC standards. To have working knowledge of national and local standards and monitor own quality and safety of practice
o Extensive knowledge of Occupational Therapy models of practice and specialist approaches
oExtensive knowledge of legislation affecting clinical practice such as manual handling, housing and SEND
of Occupational Therapy therapeutic interventions for children and young people including but not inclusive to: manual handling, specialist equipment, 24-hour postural management, fine motor, sensory differences and housing adaptations
oKnowledge of a wide range of Occupational Therapy assessment tools appropriate to meet a wide range of needs in the paediatric population
oKnowledge of normal child development and a broad range of paediatric conditions
oSubstantial clinical experience in a range of children's OT assessment and interventions
oCommunity based Children's Occupational Therapy experience
oAbility to keep accurate and legible children/young people and families clinical notes in line with RCOT and HCPC guidance
oProven ability to work on own initiative and without supervision in a variety of community settings
oKnowledge and experience of gaining meaningful feedback from children, young people and families' voice and inform meaningful change
oExperience of working in a 'person-centred' way which shows you can demonstrate values that are important to children, young people and families
