Nottingham, United Kingdom Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trusts Full time

Job summary

This post is an ideal opportunity for a motivated individual to join our experienced forward thinking TB team. This post has been generated to support the TB team in delivering the BCG service to eligible neonates born in Nottingham. We currently provide BCG vaccinations at City campus at our TB screening clinic and designated BCG clinics every Tuesday afternoon and Friday morning. The post holder will support the current administrative team and existing TB team with screening referrals and the delivery of the vaccine.

However you will also be responsible for developing our BCG service, leading education and training alongside our TB lead nurse and TB consultants. Good communication skills will be central to this post and you will be expected to engage with parents when the BCG vaccination may have to be delayed because of an underlying medical condition affecting the baby or mother, and can be a stressful time for the whole family. Therefore effective communication and collaboration with other key stakeholders and divisions within both primary and secondary care will be essential. If you would like to broaden your skills and understanding of the BCG vaccination and its role in protecting the population from tuberculosis then join our current team in eradicating TB.

Main duties of the job

In addition to the below summary you will need to familiarize yourself with the full job description and person specification attached to this advert. The post involves providing high quality care to babies, but we can also vaccinate older children and adults up to 35 years if eligibility criteria are met. You will work both autonomously and alongside the existing TB team, whilst adopting a multi-disciplinary team approach. You will undertake screening and BCG clinics at city campus, and you must have an attention to detail and be passionate about improving quality, safety standards and patient experience.

Supporting the administrative team with screening babies and infants is pivotal. This involves reviewing the SCID (Serious Combined Immunodeficiency Disease (SCID) result, the immunisation and medical records of the neonate and mothers prior to invitation to clinic. You will also be expected to review current policies and design training packages for delivering a BCG vaccination programme and participate in future BCG vaccination training.
