Job summary

West 1 is an acute trauma ward. We have patients ranging in different fractures and musculoskeletal injuries. We care for patients post operatively, patients being treated conservatively needing intense rehabilitation and ones that are acutely unwell. We also have Polytrauma step down patients. We work closely with all other Trauma wards and the Trauma Ambulatory Care unit.

The shifts are traditionally 12 hours days and nights but there is flexibility where needed.

Main duties of the job

Newly registered nurses get a 4 week supernumerary period, any new staff to the ward will also get a supervisery period with an allocated preceptor.

You will have the opportunity to complete pump and IV training, including PCA, become proficient in wound care management including negative pressure wound therapy. You will learn and manage the care of a cast and various braces and slings. You will be expected to administer blood transfusions and there is potential to learn cannulation and venepuncture along with bor pre and post operative patients and teh opportunity to enahnce your discharge planning and complex care discharges with a proactive MDT. There can be a quick turn over patients and therefore we are looking for someone who is motivated, compassionate and adapt quickly to change. We are a forward thinking department and very open to change and service improvement. We strive to give the patients the best care possible.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
