We have an exciting opportunity for successful candidates to train as a Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioner in our Adult Drug and Alcohol services.
We have places available in Cornwall, Bournemouth and North Somerset and you will be enrolled with the University of Exeter to undertake the training element of the course. We also have places available in Darlington, Rotherham, Grimsby, and Scunthorpe. For these positions, you will be enrolled with the University of Hull to undertake the training element of the course.
Being a Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioner involves providing compassionate, person centred care for adults (including older people), which is hopeful and focused on their goals. It begins with skilled information gathering, information giving and shared decision-making, with the intention of enabling access to the best community and professional resources that can help. It also involves delivering specific psychological interventions under supervision from a suitably qualified psychological professional. A full job description is available on request.
The trainee salary for this role will be £25,147, rising to £28,407 upon qualifying. This is a 12 month contract, ending in September 2025.
Visa requirements
As these roles are funded by Health Education England for home fees and not for international fees. The University requires you either need to have a UK passport, or have settled status in the UK. Only applicants that have the and are eligible for status, are able to access the training needed for this role. More information can be found.

Required Skills
Applicants will need to make a successful application to the University supporting the placement. All information on how to do this will be supplied. Completion of the qualification is over an academic year.
The curriculum of the training is designed so that it can be available at both undergraduate (level 6) and postgraduate certificate level (level 7). This means you will need either:
For PGCert (level 7) - you will need to evidence you have a degree at 2:2 or above in any relevant subject.
For GradCert (level 6) - evidence of study at level 5 Level
Level 5 courses come in the form of the 2nd year of a bachelor's programme or a HND (Higher National Diploma). Level 5 qualifications are:
diploma of higher education (DipHE) foundation degree higher national diploma (HND) level 5 award level 5 certificate level 5 diploma level 5 NVQEntrants do not need to possess previous clinical or professional expertise in mental health, but should have demonstrable interpersonal skills and values consistent with providing hopeful, person-centred care.
