Job overview

Are you an experienced Band 5 looking for your next step career development? Are you a band 6 looking for a new career direction?

Depending on your experience we have a Band 6 or Band 5 development opportunity for an Occupational Therapist to work in our Acute Neurology team at Worthing Hospital. The post is full time but we would consider part time with a minimum of 30 hours per week, for the right candidate.

We are looking for an Occupational Therapist with experience in working with patients with Neurological conditions. This friendly, supportive team is based predominately on our stroke unit and also provides a service to patients with a variety of neurological diagnoses within the hospital including spinal injuries, acquired brain injuries and progressing neurological conditions.

You will be responsible for providing a high standard of assessment, advice, treatment and evaluation of patients referred to the acute Inpatient Occupational Therapy Service, including patients with varying presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for Occupational Therapy; excellent communication skills and enthusiasm for their role, with the ability to work autonomously and as a part of the wider MDT.

Main duties of the job

Therapists will have opportunities to work creatively in rehabilitation sessions, work closely with MDT members completing specialist assessments, complete standardised and non-standardised assessments and carry out home visits to facilitate safe discharge from hospital. Service development and supervisor opportunities are available for personal and team development.

To provide specialist occupational therapy interventions using an evidence based, flexible and patient-centred approach, working within a Multi-Disciplinary Team to meet the health and social care needs of people who are referred to our services.

To perform a specialist occupational therapy role for patients referred to the post holder’s clinical team with complex health and social care needs.

To provide supervision and leadership for relevant junior members of occupational therapy staff in conjunction with the team leader.

To participate in the planning, development and evaluation of Occupational Therapy services within a designated specialist team.

To provide supervision and training for students on practice placement
