The Civil Nuclear Constabulary (CNC) is an armed police service that’s dedicated to the nuclear industry. As Vetting Officer, we’ll rely on you to identify those who can deliver our mission.
As Vetting Officer at the CNC you’ll be at the forefront of providing a competent vetting service. You will be the first point of contact for all queries and issues and will work closely with internal departments to identify and address any issues. You’ll be responsible for conducting the full range of checks for all individuals joining the CNC.
You’ll review applications and produce recommendations on individual’s suitability to hold clearances and work with us. To do this, you’ll collate, review, and analyse information, conduct interviews where necessary, and produce detailed reports. You’ll not only look after joiners to the CNC, but current staff who have notified a change in personal circumstance.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
A good standard of education. Experience of complex decision making, with a sound understanding of the legislative, organisational, or personal impact of decisions The post holder should have an ability to analyse and scrutinise evidence from a number of different sources and of preparing detailed, accurate and concise written reports, summarising, and presenting data in a clear format. Proven experience of a high level of IT skills including Word and Excel. Ability to use own initiative and prioritise own workload, with experience of managing a large caseload of a complex nature whilst maintaining high levels of attention to detail. Experience of problem solving, and a proven ability to work to agreed time scales in a pressurised, customer focused environment. Good communication skills across all mediums including an ability to elicit information whilst remaining professional with a level of empathy and understanding. Experience of carrying out a role that demands a high degree of honesty and integrity due to the nature of the sensitive information that the Vetting department handles. To have a good working knowledge of PNC, PND, Open-Source Checking, Electoral Roll, Experian, Gatekeeper, Optio and Centurion systems to ensure that all vetting recommendations are carried out using evidence from all available sources. To understand and interpret various pieces of legislation, codes of practice and guidelines. Use their knowledge and expertise to extract and apply the relevant aspects to ensure compliance in order to protect the CNC from litigation, corruption, mistakes, and reputational harm.Please note that this role requires national security vetting clearance.

Some of the responsibilities of this role include:
To have a sound working knowledge of all of the legislation and guidance that is relevant to Police and National Security vetting and to use this knowledge to ensure the correct vetting standards are applied to all applicants to, and employees of, the CNC. To carry out detailed research on a number of sources of information, including PNC, PND, Police intelligence systems, credit reference systems, electoral rolls, and social media platforms, to obtain evidence that will form part of the decision-making process to grant or deny Police vetting clearance. To identify potential security risks and refer cases to the Aftercare Supervisor where appropriate. To carry out face to face and telephone interviews with vetting applicants to establish key information that will provide evidence to support or deny clearance. To use all of the above information to record a rationale in line with the National Decision-Making Model (NDM) and provide an initial recommendation on clearance. To process all NSV and Police security reviews utilising the relevant documentation, guidelines, legislation, and timelines. To prioritise own workload in line with the regulatory timelines for vetting and the needs of the Constabulary. Handle a wide range of sensitive and confidential information, including personal data, ensuring the security and integrity of all data is maintained at all times and is managed and stored in a manner appropriate to its content in line with the relevant legislation and guidance.
