About the Role
The Civil Nuclear Constabulary is seeking a highly skilled Vetting Officer to join our team. As a Vetting Officer, you will be responsible for conducting thorough background checks on individuals applying for national security vetting clearance.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed research on various sources of information, including PNC, PND, Police intelligence systems, credit reference systems, electoral rolls, and social media platforms.
- Identify potential security risks and refer cases to the Aftercare Supervisor where appropriate.
- Carry out face-to-face and telephone interviews with vetting applicants to establish key information that will provide evidence to support or deny clearance.
- Use all of the above information to record a rationale in line with the National Decision-Making Model (NDM) and provide an initial recommendation on clearance.
- Process all NSV and Police security reviews utilising the relevant documentation, guidelines, legislation, and timelines.
- Prioritise own workload in line with the regulatory timelines for vetting and the needs of the Constabulary.
- Handle a wide range of sensitive and confidential information, including personal data, ensuring the security and integrity of all data is maintained at all times and is managed and stored in a manner appropriate to its content in line with the relevant legislation and guidance.
- Provide a point of contact for all vetting enquiries from both internal and external customers and provide appropriate advice.
Requirements
- A good standard of education.
- Experience of complex decision making, with a sound understanding of the legislative, organisational, or personal impact of decisions.
- The post holder should have an ability to analyse and scrutinise evidence from a number of different sources.
- Experience of preparing detailed, accurate and concise written reports, summarising, and presenting data in a clear format.
- Proven experience of a high level of IT skills including Word and Excel.
- Ability to use own initiative and experience and to manage a large caseload of a complex nature whilst maintaining high levels of attention to detail.
- Experience of problem solving, and a proven ability to work to agreed time scales in a pressurised, customer focused environment.
- Good communication skills across all mediums including an ability to elicit information whilst remaining professional with a level of empathy and understanding.
- Experience of carrying out a role that demands a high degree of honesty and integrity due to the nature of the sensitive information that the Vetting department handles.
