Cognitive Behavioural Therapist for Insomnia

We are looking to recruit two Psychological Therapist/Cognitive Behavioural Therapist for Insomnia ( hours a week) and (30 hours a week) for our Insomnia and Behavioural Sleep Medicine Department (IBSM). The therapist will work as part of a MDT providing an outpatient service for our patients who experience a range of chronic, complex physical and mental health conditions and sleep disorders. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a high level of knowledge and skills as a therapist working with a mixed caseload.

This post is graded at Band 7, reflecting the need for an experienced, independent practitioner. The therapist will be responsible for managing their own caseload and will provide therapy on an individual and group basis. We will provide in-house 1:1 supervision and the successful candidate will be invited to join monthly peer group meetings

1. To provide highly specialist cognitive behavioural therapy to clients with sleep disorders and often other complex, co-morbid conditions.

2. To act in a consultative capacity in matters relating to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia to RLHIM medical, allied health professionals and nursing staff

3. To be a key member of the RLHIM IBSM Team

4. The post holder will work with people with different cultural backgrounds and ages, using interpreters when necessary.

Job responsibilities

The RLHIM

The RLHIM operates on an outpatients basis and has psychological therapists trained in different modalities Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia, Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy, Autogenic Training, Hypnosis, Counselling Psychology and Mindfulness Meditation. The therapists provide key input into condition-specific RLHIM clinical services including Insomnia, Chronic Fatigue, and Fibromyalgia, as well as services integrated with other UCLH Teams, including gastro-intestinal medicine and multiple sclerosis.

The Insomnia and Behavioural Sleep Medicine (IBSM) Team is based at The Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine, Great Ormond Street, London WC1N 3HR. We provide National Institute of Clinical Excellence and Health recommended psychological interventions for our patients who experience chronic complex sleep conditions, which include psychological interventions, specialist occupational therapy, physiotherapy and dietary consultations.

Person Specification

Knowledge and Qualifications

Essential

BSc Psychology degree or equivalent Accredited post-graduate qualification in CBT Full accreditation with appropriate professional body such as Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)/British Association for Behavioural & Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) or eqivalent Specialist CPD training knowledge of CBT for Insomnia Knowledge and/or CPD training working with patients with complex and enduring mental health difficulties

Experience

Essential

Experience of using highly specialist knowledge of CBT to treat Insomnia, and other disorders for which CBT is of proven efficacy. Experience of working clinically with patients with neurodiversity and complex mental health problems ( complex trauma, psychosis and personality disorders) Experience of MDT working with agreed/specified service requirements. Experience of using patient-reported outcome measures on a regular basis. Experience of managing own caseload effectively. Experience of conducting risk assessment within scope of practice. Previous experience regarding quality standard setting, audit and evaluation.

Desirable

Experience of using CBT for Insomnia with patients with co-morbid physical illness, including chronic fatigue syndrome
