We are looking to recruit a Physical Health Nurse to the Adult Eating Disorder Team. This will be a brand new post and is being piloted on a 12 month fixed-term contract. The post is based at Forest Grange, Bennion Centre, Leicester.

The eating disorders team is well established and have been providing high quality care for the residents of Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland for over 30 years. The team assess and provide individual care plans for recovery through evidence-based interventions and strong therapeutic relationships to patients with a variety of eating disorders, on a one-to-one basis and in group settings.

Eating disorders are common however can cause significant short and long term consequences on physical and mental health. Referrals to eating disorders services have increased in recent years and identifying and managing those at high risk of being seriously unwell or dying from physical complications of their eating disorder is imperative. The service operates with a multi-disciplinary team consisting of nurses, occupational therapists, psychiatrists, psychologists, administrators, dietitians, research and evaluation associates. Teamwork and collaboration are highly valued in the service and encouraged from all.

You must be a registered nurse with an NMC pin. Some knowledge of mental health is advantageous but training and supervision will be provided.

Job Description Summary (Main duties and responsibilities)

The post holder will:

  • Support with the assessments, early identification and management of the any physical health needs of service users, mainly in outpatients, in relation to their eating disorder.
  • Run physical health monitoring clinics to assist with the management of outpatients with eating disorders.
  • Support with creating individualised and collaborative physical health care plans.
  • Assist with training and development of staff within the Adult Eating Disorders team in relation to physical health.
  • Support with setting up a Medical Emergencies in Eating Disorders (MEED) care pathway and provide liaison with colleagues in acute and primary settings to ensure seamless care for patients with physical health needs and eating disorders.
  • Liaise with other physical health nurses within the Mental Health team for support, learning and supervision.

There is scope to help develop this role within the team and be part of the evaluation of its impact on the service users and staff of the eating disorders service.

You will also be able to take part in our weekly CPD programme, where we have an extensive range of internal and external speakers.
