Development Test Engineer

Swansea, United Kingdom Cyden Ltd Full time

You will be working in the Development Department, the Development Test Engineer will organise, build and test new and modified products to the test specifications and methods defined by the development engineers.

You will assist in new product and test equipment development, through testing prototypes and component parts, verifying their function and performance. You will be based in the Development lab/office/workshop in CyDen.

Key responsibilities include:

Performing component and device testing in line with the test specifications and methods defined by the development engineers.

Assisting in the design, procurement and assembly of prototype devices.

Providing detailed test reports to feedback to the development team.

Assist in developing and validating new test methods.

Perform development testing on new products as well as verification of individual components within the product.

Perform calibration of products and test equipment within the organisation.

Assist in fault finding and product improvement activities.

Maintain a safe, clean working environment and ensure that work is carried out in a safe manner.

Person Qualities:

You should have a degree or HNC/D in an engineering discipline, ideally in electrical/electronic or mechanical engineering.

1-year industrial experience in a suitable engineering company / university / HE establishment with experience of technical report writing and excellent IT skills is ideal.

Comfortable with using electronic test equipment for repair and troubleshooting.

Basic soldering skills is ideal or a willingness to learn.

Some experience with writing/using code is ideal, i.e. Arduino (API) and MATLAB.

Capable of working independently on projects with minimal supervision and possess good skills for 'hands-on' work.

Good organisational and time management skills are essential, along with exceptional attention to detail.

You must be a team player, able to organise your own workload and collaborate with others to deliver projects.

As a development test engineer, ideally you will have experience within an engineering test department and of testing electronic or medical products. Experience of working within a quality-controlled development system e.g. ISO9001 will also be beneficial.

As a development test engineer working in the R&D department you should be able to cope in an often face-paced and continuously changing environment.

Working in the Research side of the R&D department, this role has a wide remit and would suit a candidate with a wide skill base. Building, observing, recording, testing, tweaking then rebuilding are all part of the day to day of this role. You will be at the forefront of product development so a comfort and acceptance of failed experiments is a given, but your real skills will be in using what you learn from this to redesign, rebuild, and reenergise for round two.

Working with industry experts, you won't ever be left floundering, as there will always be support and guidance around when you seek it. We have an open-door environment where all ideas are welcomed during meetings and brainstorming sessions. You will be expected to be self-motivated, eager, and keen to explore ideas further, as well as willing to help others when you can.

Your background could be Electronics, Mechatronics, Mechanical, or more theoretical, but you won't have let that limit your interests. Soldering, tinkering, using Arduinos or similar will all be familiar to you. What might not be familiar will be the stricter requirements for documentation that come from working in a medical device space, but this will be explained with the need and benefit made clear along with any safe systems of work, device specific risks and test methods needed to keep you and the team safe.

As well as the commitment to the experiments, you will also be expected to commit to making the environment the best possible place to work, keeping your areas clean, taking responsibilities for tools and equipment, and offering support and opinions on continuous improvement.

In return we offer competitive rates of pay, 25 days holiday plus Bank holidays rising to 28 with length of service, 5% Company pension contributions, Company sick pay, career development opportunities, Employee Assistance Programme and Cycle to Work Scheme.

CyDen is committed to being an equal opportunities employer and values diversity.
