Apprenticeship Eligibility Criteria:

All applicants must be:

Aged 16+ Resident in the UK/EEA for the last three consecutive years Must not have a qualification in a similar subject at the same level or above Must not be in any form of formal government-funded education upon the start of their apprenticeship

Qualifications and Skills Required:

Main duties of the job

The Oncology and Haematology Directorate consists of Outpatients within the Colney Centre, Weybourne, and Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy treatment areas. The department has a year-on-year increase in new referrals and treatments and has expanded the radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatment areas.

We welcome applications from individuals wishing to become an Apprentice and gain experience in the NHS. You will develop new skills and knowledge whilst working with an established team gaining valuable work experience and a recognized apprenticeship qualification.

You will be enrolled with a local education provider and will be required to complete your Level 2 Business Administration or Customer Service Program within the duration of the placement.

You will be working across both specialties to support the delivery of administration services including Reception duties such as greeting patients, handling telephone enquiries, accurate data input upon arrival and rebooking appointments as well as admin support for the Acute Oncology Haematology Service which includes duties such as typing, data input and appointment bookings.

Job responsibilities

To provide a support service to the technical, secretarial, medical and nursing staff of the Department. To carry out receptionist duties, including prioritising and arranging appointments and maintaining the various appointment systems, identifying test requests and investigations, and co-ordinating the various clinics within the department. To deal with patients and external and internal staff enquiries in person or via the telephone, in a courteous and confidential manner and provide assistance as required. To ensure patients safety and well-being in the waiting area prior to them being called for their appointment and alerting appropriate staff to any cause for concern. To keep a log of telephone enquiries in line with department policy, prioritising these and ensuring messages are conveyed to the appropriate staff. To ensure appointment lists are maintained and prepared in readiness for clinical work. To obtain and prepare notes in readiness for clinics, investigations or at the request of staff within the Department until EDMS takes effect. To maintain a record of the transfer of notes to and from the Department. To understand the 18 Week Pathway, input the correct RTT codes and validate the patient pathway where appropriate. To liaise with Secretaries and other departments within the Trust as necessary to ensure case notes, X-rays and referrals are available for every patient attending an Out-patient Clinic.
