Job summary

The Education department at Arthur Rank Hospice Charity (ARHC) supports learning and development across our charity, providing training programmes and guidance for staff as well as engaging with external partners to provide teaching, bespoke training, and student placements.

We have an opportunity to join this friendly team, working as a Clinical Nurse Educator, this is a permanent, part time role working 30 hours a week.

Main duties of the job

The role will be responsible for developing, delivering and evaluating education and training on palliative care using a flexible, evidenced based approach across the hospice and wider healthcare system. The role will act as an education resource for other professionals and support clinical colleagues to develop their own knowledge and skills.

Other main duties will include:

Working with the Head of Education & Practice Developmentto identify training needs and supporting the delivery of palliative care and clinical skill training and competencies Participating in the delivery of clinical supervision and restorative/resilience-based supervision Participating in the delivery of pre and post registration educational programmes, including supporting students on placement. Delivering education and competency-based assessment for ARHC services and across the health system Participating in quality and clinical audit programmes.

To be successful in this role, candidates must be a NMC Registered Nurse, hold a degree level qualification in palliative care and a teaching qualification (or equivalent.) Its also required to have experience within a similar role which includes designing and delivering training courses ,as well as up to date knowledge and understanding of palliative and end of life care.

Due to the nature of this role, candidates are required to hold a UK driving license and have access to a vehicle for work purposes.

Job responsibilities

Job Purpose:

To develop, deliver and evaluate education and training using a flexible, evidenced based, approach across the hospice and wider healthcare system.

As a member of the Education Team, be a role model, demonstrating a professional and pro-active approach, providing advice, guidance, support, and delivering expert knowledge of palliative care to staff in clinical practice across the wider system.

Promote an open, supportive learning culture that facilitates effective multi-professional team working and supports practice development, preceptorship, pre and post registration students across ARHC services.

Main Responsibilities:

Education and Research

To deliver high quality, evidence-based education on palliative care using a variety of teaching methods, face to face and virtually Participate in the design, delivery, and evaluation of teaching sessions for both hospice staff and external partners Assist Head of Education and Practice Development in the planning, delivery, and evaluation of education To act as an educational and information resource for other professionals Role model an awareness of professional developments in nursing and palliative and end of life care Participate, encourage and empower clinical staff to develop their own knowledge and skills. Identify areas requiring staff development Participate in delivering clinical supervision, restorative/resilience-based supervision Work with and alongside staff on induction and preceptorship programs to support practice and competence To participate in the delivery of pre and post registration educational programmes. Including supporting students on placement

Expected Patient Outcomes

Provide education to enhance staff knowledge in palliative care [SR1] Contribute to increased quality of life for patients and the wider community by delivering evidence-based information about palliative and end of life care in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough

Clinical and Practice Governance

Work with the Head of Education and Practice Development and ARHC team leads to identify training needs and support delivery of palliative care and clinical skill training and competencies

Deliver identified education and competency-based assessment for ARHC services and across the health system

To participate in the quality and clinical audit programme. Identify, encourage and promote areas of practice that require auditing and monitoring

To identify, participate, support, and encourage the use of evidence-based practice as part of robust practice development

Contribute to Journal Club and other research activity

To support pre-registration nursing and other students during clinical placements, in conjunction with the clinical teams

Provide on-going support to Supervisors and Assessors who are supporting students

To participate in the induction of clinical staff with regard to standards of competence. Provide ongoing support and professional development for new and existing staff, including revalidation support as appropriate

Support and develop staff in developing their clinical and holistic skills, by using a combination of working alongside, group training and teaching, both face to face and online Support the clinical, restorative and resilience based supervision programme

Leadership and Teamworking

Exercise leadership in education to support the clinical team to attain and develop high standards of patient care, through research and evidence-based practice Be an effective role model providing a supportive, safe environment in which to learn, practice and to develop confidence and maturity in this specialist field have an understanding of the importance of multi-professional team working and the ability to signpost staff to relevant resources Participate in the development, implementation and updating of policies and procedures Maintain staff awareness of policies and procedures through appropriate training and support Develop and update competency assessments and facilitate their completion. Design and deliver training and education, and keep appropriate records, in conjunction with the Education Co-Ordinator Collaborate with other stakeholders including primary care, care home, domiciliary and community care on variety of tasks as guided by the Head of Education and Practice Development Contribute to and undertake specific project work as guided and supported by the Head of Education and Practice Development Person Specification

Registered General Nurse Degree level qualification in Palliative Care or equivalent level of experience Evidence of continued professional development Teaching qualification or relevant experience Up to date knowledge of palliative and end of life care
