Job summary

We are looking to appoint to an 8PA Consultant in Sexual and Reproductive Health at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based at Royal Hallamshire Hospital to deliver high quality direct patient care, support and specialist training in Sexual and reproductive healthcare. The post holder will provide:

o Consultant input within the Sheffield Sexual Health Services including routine and complex contraceptive services and training.

o Two menopause clinics a week as part of the Directorate of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Neonatology (OGN). These will be based in Jessop Wing of the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

We would welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers.

Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant any further vacancies arise shortlisted applicants will be considered.

Main duties of the job

The Consultant will undertake a full range of medical duties in Contraception Clinics and Sexual Health Clinics and will be expected to work with clinical colleagues supported by local managers in providing a safe, efficient, and effective service for Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. The post holder will share clinical responsibilities with professional colleagues and will actively contribute to the governance arrangements of the department.

The post holder will provide active support to the leadership team to support the continued development of the Integrated Sexual Health Service in Sheffield including the development of additional services in community settings in order to enhance access to services ensuring that patient safety, confidentiality, and effective clinical governance are maintained and to help develop appropriate clinical pathways.

A key element of this role is to deliver specialist training. The candidate will be expected to deliver and contribute to development of internal and external specialist training. This includes training DFSRH, inter-uterine devices and sub-dermal implants for contraception. The applicant would also be expected to contribute to delivery of local courses relating to all aspects of sexual health and provide expertise and drive in delivering a robust training programme.

There is no on call associated with this post.

Person Specification

Sexual & Reproductive Health Consultant

Essential

Full and Specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) or be eligible for registration within six months of interview. Name on the specialist register for relevant specialty or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview. If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. MBBS or equivalent medical qualification MFSRH CCT Sexual & Reproductive Healthcare BMS advanced certificate, or equivalent PPMC Trainer

Desirable

MRCOG Postgraduate professional qualification Faculty LoC in Med Education Or Equivalent. MRCGP, Dip GUMed. MD or PhD or equivalent Menopause ATSM or BMS advanced certificate in Principles and practice of Menopause care or equivalent.

Clinical experience

Essential

Minimum Five years full - time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part time or flexible basis). Experience in counselling women with unplanned pregnancies. Faculty LoC for Subdermal Implants & Intrauterine Techniques and competent or willing to train in complex implant removal Proven ability to work effectively in different clinical settings for example community clinics and outreach settings in colleges. Resuscitation training is up to date. Ability to work as an independent practitioner in benign gynaecology, with evidence of competence in contemporary management strategies in this area. Ability to assess and manage women presenting with menopausal symptoms. Ability to assess and manage abnormal bleeding in peri and post-menopausal women and unscheduled bleeding on HRT. Eligibility to work in the UK.
