Bristol, United Kingdom Avon & Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust Full time

Job summary

We are pleased to be advertising one of our Clinical Service Management roles within CAMHS.

We are seeking a dynamic and highly motivated individual who is passionate about children's mental health. You will be joining a well-established supportive and dynamic leadership team across the BNSSG CAMHS services. The post holder will manage both the CAMHS Intensive Outreach Team (CIOT) and UCAT teams comprising both hospital assessment and intensive outreach. This role involves working closely with our partners in child health, social care and the voluntary sector to continue to deliver effective services that make a difference. You will work closely with our acute hospital colleagues as well as forming close relationships with locality CAMHS and our inpatient service to further reduce length of stay and avoid admissions where possible.

We are a knowledgeable, passionate, multidisciplinary team who put young people at the heart of our work. We strive to provide compassionate leadership as we recognise the importance of staff well-being. As part of the wider CAMHS service we are moving towards an I-Thrive approach to ensure our service is more responsive, accessible and effective. You will need to work well with complexity and change, demonstrating the Trust's values, PRIDE, at all times.

We would welcome an informal discussion with interested candidates. Please make contact to arrange an informal walkabout or meeting.

Main duties of the job

To be responsible for the leadership and delivery of the CAMHS Intensive Outreach Team (CIOT) and UCAT which works across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG). Please note the post holder will be required to travel across BNSSG as the service covers this entire patch. CIOT is a combined team of AWP and Off The Record staff working to an agreed set of aims and objectives. This role requires close collaboration with a range of partner services to ensure seamless delivery of care across the pathway of services, particularly social care, acute hospitals and alongside adult services.

The CAMHS Intensive Outreach Team (CIOT) is part of the wider Community Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMHS) service and part of a wider partnership with Sirona, Off the record and wider children's services.

About us

We are AWP (Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust) a diverse organisation with over 5,000 dedicated staff providing inpatient and community-based mental health care. We provide services from a range of locations to approximately million people living in Bath and North East Somerset (B&NES), Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Swindon, across the county of Wiltshire and in parts of Dorset. Our outstanding people promote mental health and wellbeing. The expertise and resources within AWP are dedicated to a person-centred approach for those who use our services and for all employees. We recognise that happy and fulfilled employees give better care.

At AWP we actively encourage applicants from all backgrounds; we are particularly keen to encourage applications from people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds, those with disabilities and from the LGBTQ+ community. We want people to bring their unique blend of experiences, backgrounds, perspectives and knowledge to AWP, as diversity makes us stronger.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The CIOT team has three main functions:

Hospital assessment

CIOT offers assessment of all under 18s, including those who are not normally resident in Bristol or South Gloucestershire, who present at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston (UHBW) and North Bristol Trust (NBT) hospitals in crisis with self-injurious behaviours, suicidal ideation or psychosis as part of a mental health presentation.

Intensive Outreach

CIOT offers an intensive outreach package of care to young people and their families/carers in CAMHS who are in crisis, at high risk of harm to themselves, at risk of Tier 4 admission and/or struggling to access and engage with locality CAMHS.

Young people referred to CIOT require more input than locality CAMHS services are able to provide because of the level of risk they are presenting with. CIOTs aim is to offer a short term crises intervention to try and prevent further escalations in risk, offer a period of stabilisation to the young person and their network and prevent a Tier 4 admission.

CIOT will also support young people and families and their locality teams with step downs from tier 4 units when there is capacity within the team to do so and if clinically appropriate. We will aim to offer in-reach work alongside locality to maintain relationships with young people and assist with care plans at the point of discharge.

CAMHS 24/7 Emergency Response Line

CIOT manage the CAMHS element of the AWP 24/7 response line that was set up in April 2020 as part of the national strategy to prevent ED admissions during the COVID-19 pandemic. CIOT takes calls from the children and young people, parents and carers in crisis 24 hours a day. The response line also takes calls from professionals who are concerned for children/young people.
