Job summary

We have a vacancy for a Senior/Experienced Practice Nurse,working 30-37 hours per week, to join our friendly and supportive team atNewnham Walk Surgery in Cambridge. Webenefit from a nursing team with a wealth of experience and knowledge and arelooking for a senior Nurse to lead us.

The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic, flexible andmotivated team player who will contribute to our dedicated team and have excellentclinical and communication skills. A prescribing qualification and otherchronic disease management experience, family planning, travel medicine, babyimmunisations, respiratory, cytology and wound/treatment rooms skills are alsodesirable.

You will need to be a registered nurse with appropriatequalifications and ideally with GP practice experience but this is notessential.

Main duties of the job

The post holderwill ideally be an experienced Practice Nurse with minor illness and chronicdisease management experience. Depending on previous experience and training,the nurse will provide care within their previous training and skills as perthe job description below. Further training will be provided as necessary.

As nurse lead,the post holder will maintain an ongoing communication with the nursing team ofPractice Nurses and HCAs to ensure a high standard of care.

The post holderwill also be required to work alongside the Office Manager and Practice Managerand Partners to ensure Infection Control and Health and Safety guidance isfollowed.

Key Responsibilities

Minor illness

Assess diagnose and treat a straightforward patient presentation within own level of competence and training and refer to a GP if complex presentation Refer to community and secondary care as per practice guidelines Order investigations and interpret within levels of competence and refer to a GP if complex Offer health promotion advice

General Practice Nursing

Perform cervical smears, asthma reviews, contraception, diabetes reviews, hypertension reviews and general treatment room duties if have previous training and competence.

Senior/Lead Nurse Role

Maintain an ongoing communication with the nursing team to ensure a high standard of care.

Liase with Practice Manager and Office Manager on staff, environment and repairs required. Ensure clinical rooms are maintained within infection control guidelines Ensure all stock is correctly ordered alongside the HCA Professional.

Professional

Practice within policies and guidelines of the NMC (2015) and Newnham Walk Surgery. Maintain confidentiality of all patient identifiable information and contacts. Maintain and continually develop clinical knowledge, skills and competence relevant and appropriate to the role in order to promote safe and effective practice. Have a clear understanding of the legal issues and professional accountability relevant to the role. Maintain skills and competencies in use of the clinical system. Inform the practice manager or a GP partner of any professional concerns and report significant events according to Newnham Walk Surgery policy. Maintain accurate records of all patient contacts in accordance with NMC (2015), Newnham Walk Surgery guidelines and best practice. Have a working knowledge of Data Protection and Caldicott Principles. Adhere to the Newnham Walk Surgery complaints procedure. Support and contribute to the future development of practice services. The post holder will support the equality, diversity and rights of patients, their families, carers and colleague.

Personal

Take personal responsibility for reading, and where appropriate, responding to e-mail communication to and from Newnham Walk Surgery team and external organisations.

Work in a safe manner at all times and comply with the organisations operational health and safety policies and procedures. Training requirements will be monitored by yearly appraisal and will be in accordance with practice requirements.
