We are seeking to recruit an Activity Co-ordinator to join one of our Mental Health Wards based at the Whiteleaf Centre.
Sapphire Ward is a 20 bedded male acute psychiatric ward, supporting patients who are in an acute crisis of their mental health diagnosis.
The activity co-ordinator post forms part of the multi-disciplinary team, including Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Health Care Assistants, Speech and Language Therapist, Physiotherapist, Dietician and Health and Fitness Instructor.
Each of the 4 wards at the Whiteleaf Centre has an activity co-ordinator post, providing lots of opportunities to link up with others and receive regular peer supervision.
Ward staff are required undertake PEACE training. This 5-day training course covers the curriculum relating to the prevention and application of Restrictive Practice and Interventions as detailed in the Restraint Reduction Network Training Standards 2019. Therefore, applicants need to have a good range of mobility and fitness to learn the physical restraint techniques taught on the course.

We are looking for a key member of staff who will work collaboratively in the planning, development and provision of a range of therapeutic, well-being and social activities for the service users on the inpatient wards. In collaboration with patients and the Occupational Therapist, you will create a 7 day therapeutic activity timetable, supporting patients to engage in meaningful activity during their inpatient stay with the aim to improve their wellbeing and aid recovery. You will be highly supported by both the Nursing Team and Occupational Therapy Team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To engage service users in physical and recreational activity appropriate to their individual needs and abilities.
- To plan and co-ordinate a programme of activity under the supervision and direction of members of the multi-disciplinary team.
- Organise and plan service user events in collaboration with MDT colleagues to promote inclusivity.
- To develop and use practical and technical skills with service users, either through your own identification of need or as suggested by members of the multi-disciplinary team
- To work with service users to improve their mental health, physical health and wellbeing.
- To assist in identifying service user’s strengths and needs in order to plan and implement suitable activities for groups and individual service users.
- To be involved in evaluating the effectiveness of activity with service users, carers and the multidisciplinary team
- To record clinical information on service user’s progress with members of the multi-disciplinary teamat the Whiteleaf Centre.

Skills & Knowledge:
Essential criteria
Active interest in & willingness to participate in delivering a wide range of therapeutic activities Good interpersonal skills to work with patients, carers & staff Time management & organisational skills to undertake activities
Desirable criteria
Prior skill & experience in a relevant area of work e.g. creative arts, crafts, physical fitness acknowledgement of needing to assess risk/experience in risk assessment Experience of running groups/sessions
Experience/ Qualifications/ Training
Essential criteria
Care certificate/other qualification or willingness to work towards one Good literacy and numeracy skills
Desirable criteria
Experience of working with people within a mental health setting
