Specialist Oncology/ Haematology Pharmacist, Private Care Band 8, Full time 37.5 Hour per week Based at Chelsea (but with regular cross-site responsibilities) An exciting new opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, dynamic and committed pharmacist to help lead the private care pharmacy team to deliver a first-class service for our private care patients at The Royal Marsden Hospital (RMH). You will be at the forefront of new and innovative treatments, working closely with world renowned experts who are leading the way in many areas of oncology and haemato-oncology. There will be the opportunity to become involved with the pharmaceutical management of patients with complex haemato-oncological malignancies including those requiring CAR-T therapy and stem cell transplants. Last year, RMH implemented a new EPIC digital health record which has transformed the way that patients and healthcare professionals engage with each other whilst providing a streamlined service for everyone. Main duties of the job

This role provides the clinical leadership of the pharmacy provision to private care patients undergoing systemic anticancer therapy (SACT), surgery, bone marrow transplants as well as several other treatments at the Royal Marsden. 

This role will work with the key stakeholders within pharmacy, nursing and medicine to support the delivery of these services, focussed on continually improving outcomes and experience for our patients.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

b) To provide and co-ordinate the delivery of high quality, comprehensive pharmaceutical care, contributing to the multi-professional team through day unit pharmacy services and attendance at appropriate clinician’s clinics and meetings.

c) To support prescribing at the individual level, contributing to the optimisation of the individual patients drug therapy with due consideration to risk/benefit issues and, where appropriate, participate in non-medical prescribing clinics.

e) Identify any systematic or preventable errors associated with medicines used and facilitate learning.

f) To proactively develop clinical pharmacy services in the private care setting in line with local and national objectives.

Education/Qualifications

Essential criteria

GPhC registered Pharmacist Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent

Desirable criteria

Independent prescribing qualification (or working towards one)

Experience

Demonstrable post-registration hospital pharmacy experience in the UK Oncology/Haematology Pharmacy experience Ward Pharmacy experience DUR and clinical audit experience Previous experience of day unit pharmacy services

Desirable criteria

Previous experience of Private patient services Experience of budget management and directorate support

Skills/Abilities/Knowledge

Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.

The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the upmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
