We're seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Occupational Therapist (OT) Assistant Team Manager to join the Adult Social Care Team at the London Borough of Sutton. Our commitment lies in ensuring each resident's encounter with our OT's is an exceptional experience. As an OT Assistant Team Manager, your role holds the key to realising this commitment.

You will be based within the Duty Team, providing management and support to the Occupational Therapists and Enabling Independence Officers. The team are responsible for triaging referrals that are received through the Contact Centre, have the ability to respond in a person-centred way using a prevention and strength based approach, working proactively to identify individuals who may be at risk of developing social care needs in the future. You will provide guidance and quality assurance to ensure that the team is directing people to the appropriate support to maintain their independence. You will collaborate with health partners, community groups, and residents to facilitate positive outcomes. You will support the team to complete proportionate assessments for equipment and adaptations to prevent, reduce or delay needs, and to mitigate risk.

Main duties of the job

Our Occupational Therapists take a person-centred approach whilst working within a multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will demonstrate the following competencies:

Degree or an equivalent qualification in Occupational Therapy and registered with the HCPC Significant experience as an Occupational Therapist, ideally within a Local Authority or similar community setting Experience of major adaptations and complex manual handling

You will need to have significant experience in the practice of occupational therapy within a local authority setting and sound knowledge of relevant legislation and the principles of safeguarding. You will need to demonstrate experience of completing holistic assessments for the provision of services such as recommending equipment, minor and major adaptations, moving and handling risk assessments, mobility assessments and housing support.

Sutton is proud to be one of the only London boroughs to have launched an Occupational Therapy Preceptorship, to support and develop people who are newly qualified or returning to practice. The Hub focuses on strength-based assessments to enhance independence and well-being, covering a wide range of support from reablement, assessments for disabled facilities grant, optimal care, to housing needs assessments, making it a comprehensive service for the community.

Job responsibilities

This role may be based in Children or Adult Social Services. Reporting to the TeamManager, ATMs will be responsible for the leadership and management of amultidisciplinary social care team. Using their advanced knowledge and experience theywill lead and model practice which meets statutory requirements, provides early helpand prevention to reduce need and support independence using the relevant practiceframework for the service. They will support the manager to develop and embed a cultureof learning and improvement through supervision, mentoring, sharing of best practiceknowledge, research and the competent application of legislative frameworks.ATM OT will be supported by the Principal Occupational Therapist to play an active rolecontributing to the governance and operational management of the occupational therapyand sensory service

Essential

Commitment to develop management skills and knowledge using both formal and informal methods of learning and development. Skills in leadership and knowledge of change management Evidence of undertaking regular continued professional development. Experience and skills in Practice Education/ensuring practice placements are offered to occupational therapy students within the service. Adherence to the Royal College of Occupational Therapists professional standards for occupational therapy practice, conduct and ethics. Experience of providing effective supervision advising and on the relevant legislation, case law, regulations and guidance as well as local and national policies underpinning adult social care and health. Ability to understand analyse and respond to risks across the continuum of need. Practical experience of managing and analysing complex cases, to be able to demonstrate the ability to form professional judgements using information from a range of sources. Advanced knowledge of theories, methods, tools and application of these to inform best practice. Advanced clinical reasoning to assess the impact of medical conditions and the environment on daily living, to make recommendations regarding techniques, manual handling, equipment, minor adaptations, major adaptations and housing solutions, to facilitate safe independence to meet disability need. Ability to work across the specialist professional knowledge and methods social work, occupational therapy, partner agencies. Experience of multi-agency working and evidence of taking a lead role for example through chairing of multi-agency meetings, OT representative for Housing or Integrated Community Equipment. Able to demonstrate how this has led to positive outcomes. Knowledge of the principles of performance management and have effective methods to deliver these. Understanding of the principles and practice of reflective supervision and the ability to lead and motivate staff Excellent communication skills including oral, written, negotiation and role modelling Excellent organisational and planning skills Ability to follow direction and meet statutory requirements Ability to adapt and cope with a changing environment and support colleagues in these circumstances

Qualifications

Essential - Degree, or equivalent, in Occupational Therapy Registered with Health and Care Professions council (HCPC) A minimum of 3 years post qualification relevant experience, demonstrating the development of an advanced level of knowledge and skill or evidence of how established skills and knowledge are transferable. A recognised post-qualifying award Accreditation of Practice Placement Educators; Key Trainer in moving and handling; Postural Care Skills Program; or relevant module/qualification or agreed equivalent.
