Job summary

Trafford Local Care Organisation are a public sector organisation bringing together NHS community health and social care services; aiming to improve the health of local people in Trafford by working across organisational boundaries. Community healthcare teams are employed by MFT and deployed to us, linking closely with Manchester Local Care Organisation. Teams work as one and together to make a difference to the health of people in Trafford.

We are looking for a motivated enthusiastic individual to work alongside our Infant Feeding Co-ordinator to support women wishing to breast feed their babies from the antenatal period and after birth.

TLCO has been fully accredited with the UNICEF Baby Friendly Award and prides itself on the support offered to women wishing to breastfeed their babies.

Main duties of the job

Experience of working in a community setting in primary care is essential to support women in both individual and group settings. You must be able to work in partnership with other healthcare professionals and to have experience in supporting mothers with breastfeeding.

Applications are welcome from experienced Nursery Nurses who are pro-active and enthusiastic with excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills. Post holders need to work flexibly and be committed to working innovatively with other children services colleagues.

You must have good communication skills, the ability to work using own initiative and be computer literate. Due to the nature of the role applicants must be able to travel independently across the locality and have access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes.

Qualifications

Essential

To hold a qualification in Childcare, NVQ 3, NNEB, BTEC, or equivalent experience working with parents, children, and families within Health/Social Care setting.

Desirable

Evidence of recent study. Mentorship qualification.

Experience

Essential

Leadership within infant feeding. Working in partnership with other agencies. Excellent IT skills Knowledge of the UNICEF baby friendly standards and awareness of the importance of delivery within a service

Desirable

Previous experience of working with and supporting breastfeeding mothers

Skills

Essential

Ability to provide sensitive, non-judgemental breastfeeding support to pregnant and breastfeeding women and their families. Ability to work as part of team and on own initiative. Able to prioritise own workload between competing demands. Ability to carry out a breastfeeding assessment and full assessment of a breast feed; understand the principles of positioning and attachment.

Evidence of study related to breastfeeding and/or infant feeding as a whole

Knowledge

Essential

Able to demonstrate knowledge of the importance of breastfeeding and its impact on health. Knowledge of NICE guidelines relating to breastfeeding. Knowledge of issues that affect parents and children, particularly in multi-cultural or disadvantaged areas.
