Job summary
Were thrilled to announce a rareopening for Support Workers at The Lighthouse in Lancashire. TheLighthouse is a 4 bedded child and adolescent mental health unit based inDarwen, Lancashire. The service is an independent hospital delivered by AssociatedWellbeing. The service aims to provide step-down from child and adolescentmental health inpatient units. The Lighthouse is in a privileged positionto have its own inhouse multi-disciplinary team made up of Nurses, ClinicalPsychologist, Consultant Psychiatrist and Registered Social Worker. Job responsibilities
KEY OBJECTIVES
To be an active member of the multi-disciplinaryteam, while adhering to and enhancing your professional standard of care.
To maintain a holistic approach to patient care.
To develop, implement and evaluate treatmentprogrammes and behavioural programmes for children under the supervision of aregistered nurse and a psychologist.
To participate in all aspects of care and to plan anorganise therapeutic activities for the children.
To comply with the policies and procedures operatingwithin the Service.
MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
CLINICAL DUTIES - AS DIRECTED BY THE NURSE IN CHARGE
To work under the direction of senior nursing orprofessional staff as appropriate.
To supervise children, as necessary, with all aspectsof their physical care , toileting, dressing.
To participate in the preparation and serving ofmeals. To supervise meals, eating with the children as required, ensuringaccurate monitoring and recording of food intake and food avoidance.
To assist and supervise children with domesticactivities washing up, tidyingthe service and other chores.
To lead on the recreational, therapeutic andeducational programme for children, both inside and outside of the service.This includes supporting teachers during lessons, in the management ofchildrens behaviour, assisting children with their understanding of the workrequired of them and providing them with one to one support where necessary. Italso includes planning therapeutic and recreational activities outside ofschool hours and in the holidays including trips and outings
To act as a key worker for children under thesupervision of a registered nurse. This will include home visits and schoolvisits, completing all admission procedures, attending all CPA reviews anddischarge meetings and providing reports as necessary. The key worker will alsoliaise with the family during admission providing regular feedback and updateson progress. They will also be centrally involved in the development andimplementation of behavioural programmes and in joint working with other membersof the MDT.
To participate in staff and clinical team meetings asrequired.
To contribute to the assessment, implementation andevaluation of treatment plans and risk management plans for children and theirfamilies.
To give accurate, informative verbal and writtenreports on patients as required and to complete and log a range of outcomemeasures
To liaise with parents and other agencies, teachers, social workers, school nurses, MDT etc. as required.
To ensure confidentiality and discretion in the useof information following Trust procedures on Information Governance.
To undertake any other reasonable duties whenrequested to do so by your line manger.
To ensure the safety of all children on the unit ismaintained at all times and that the unit guidelines on Behavioural Managementare followed.
ADMINISTRATION
To report any stock items which requirerequisitioning.
To report promptly to the Service Manager/Nurse incharge any necessary repairs and other deficiencies in patient and staff areas.
To be aware of all health and safety and emergencyprocedures operating withinthe department with the regard to the safety of the children at all times.
To undertake any other administrative tasks asdirected by the Service Manager/Nurse in charge.
To accurately document behaviours and other relevant information inchildrens records on a daily basis. To provide precise written records ofincidents of restraint and other serious incidents.
Communication
Alwaysact in a dignified and responsible manner with patients, visitors, andcolleagues, using appropriate language and communication skills, whichacknowledge cultural differences.
Communicateeffectively, both in writing and verbally, with other health careprofessionals, disseminating information related to the delivery of care.
Referto other health care professionals and seek guidance where there arelimitations in personal knowledge, skills and competence on specific issuesrelating to the delivery of care.
Ensurethat key information is communicated to staff and patients, feedback togenerate best practice solutions
Toparticipate in staff and clinical team meetings as required.
EDUCATIONAL
To participate in teaching and training sessions madeavailable.
To participate in individual and group supervisionoffered by senior nurses and other professionals.
GENERAL
To participate in regular appraisals on an annualbasis.
To work a 24 hour shift system including regularnight duty.
To be prepared to work in other areas within theTrust if required.
To adhere to all CNWL policies and procedures
To assist in research and audit work in the servicecompleting assessment tools and logging data onto a database.
