Salaried GP

Ormskirk, United Kingdom NHS Full time

We are a training practice with a list size of 17,000 patients across West Lancs, with 2 branches in Skelmersdale, 1 branch in Southport, and 1 branch in Ormskirk. We have a huge family of clinical staff and are an innovative practice that delivers all national and local enhanced services, offering an abundance of training opportunities. Part-time, full-time, and flexible hours will be considered. Our approach is innovative, forward-looking, and dedicated to excellent clinical outcomes.

We work hard to ensure that our GPs are motivated and engaged in contributing to a supportive culture of mutual learning. We enjoy monthly training afternoons for the whole team to come together to share learning, creating a collaborative and supportive environment for the entire team.

We are purposeful in our efforts to manage GP workload and ensure sustainability, having developed a diverse and large team of support staff over recent years to handle many admin tasks, including referrals, prescriptions, and path links. We have clinical support in-house, including pharmacists, a nursing and HCA team, and our Advanced Practitioners.

We embrace technology to enable more effective and efficient ways of working. We have introduced an online triage system for our patients, allowing them to complete an online form detailing their problem. This has significantly improved access for our patients and reduced our GPs' workload, as more conditions can be safely signposted to the appropriate clinician or service.

Main duties of the job

Patient first contact is predominantly via Accurx, our online triaging system.

  1. To provide high-quality personal medical services to the practice population, delivering sensitive and responsive care, ensuring the ethnic, linguistic, and cultural needs are taken into account.
  2. To shape and organise services to reflect the needs of the community and practice population.
  3. To promote the practice as a learning organisation, staying abreast of policy, guidelines, and evidence, and integrating this into practice.
  4. To work effectively within the primary healthcare team, promote teamwork, and take on a leadership role where appropriate.
  5. To participate in and promote quality improvement processes, including clinical governance and audit.
  6. To work in line with practice aims and objectives.
About us

We believe in clinical excellence, and that general practice is the cornerstone of well-being in our community. Our goal is to deliver on the ambitions laid out in the GP forward view in a way that is locally relevant, valued by patients, and satisfying for our staff.

The health and well-being of our staff matters immensely to us, so we have appointed a Health and Well-being lead and Champion. We take on board the recent BMA guidance in relation to safe working in general practice and the well-being of our workforce, which outlines safe limits on the number of patient contacts per day.

Our practice family consists of 7 GPs, GP Registrars, 2 ANPs, Nurse Prescribers, Practice Nurses, Pharmacists, Community Paramedic, and HCAs. Our administrative team includes 17 receptionists, which consists of a head receptionist at each location, 3 clinical coders, one scanner, a data quality lead, 2 deputy Practice Managers, an Office Manager, and a Practice Manager. We are an innovative practice that delivers all national and local enhanced services and offers an abundance of training opportunities. We have a whole practice study day every month where the whole team gets involved.

In addition to our core general practice work, we are a committed member of our local PCN, working collaboratively to improve patient access within our local area.

Job responsibilities

We are looking for someone to join our team in Lancashire who believes in our vision for high-quality, locally relevant primary care and who wants to actively engage in delivering that vision. Whatever stage you are at in your career, you will have a passion for medicine, for learning, and for finding solutions or new ways of working. You will be excited by the prospect of embracing new technologies and keen to transform the way we deliver care. You will be the kind of GP who thrives in a collaborative team, is confident to seek support when needed, and supports your peers when they do.

We understand how important it is to offer genuinely flexible working and are always open to a conversation about what working arrangements would suit your personal circumstances. If you're the right fit for us, then we'll do our best to be the right fit for you.
