IT Technician Apprentice
Location: Goffs Academy, Goffs Lane, Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, EN7 5QW
Working for Generations Multi Academy Trust
The Trust’s ICT support team is currently made up of the Director of Corporate ICT and Infrastructure, one Network Manager (based at Goffs Academy), two ICT Technicians, and one apprentice. It is the Trust’s plan over the coming years to remove the managed network and become fully self-sufficient. This would mean removing all managed software and server constraints of a managed network and running a more industry type “vanilla” network, along with fully integrating systems with Office 365, Azure and other cloud-based products. Extensive work has been undertaken to start virtualising the network, taking advantage of cloud-based systems. Doing this it allows greater flexibility with how we can teach and support learning as well as the flexibility of accessing data from most devices anywhere in the world. We’re looking for fearless techies, who have a strong interest in IT, to join the team. It’s a fantastic opportunity to learn and grow in a supportive environment – the team really want to work with you to support with continued professional development. This role will be predominantly based at Goffs Academy, with some travel to the other 2 schools within the Trust, as and when required. The Package
At Tiro, we make great things happen for people. And that starts with you. In this role you’ll receive:
- Starting salary of £14,450 per annum
- 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays (rising to 28 days after 5 years)
- Working hours: 8:00am – 4pm Monday to Thursday, Friday 8:00am – 3:30pm
- Pension scheme
- Access to the Trust Staff Benefits – includes a range of support for continued professional development, additional financial incentives/benefits, and access to a range of health and well-being resources.
What it’s like being an IT Technician Apprentice? This opportunity will allow you to develop, through study and “on the job” experience, the knowledge, and skills necessary to be a valuable IT professional. You’ll have the opportunity to work alongside a small and dedicated team of experienced professionals and gain hands-on experience, allowing you to take your skills to the next level. You’ll play a key role in assisting and actioning the school’s ICT strategy. What you’ll be doing:
- Assisting the ICT Team in ensuring the smooth and efficient delivery of learning & teaching across the Trust.
- Supporting the development of all front-facing and social media platforms across the Trust.
- Regularly checking the ticket system and providing first and second line IT support.
- Diagnosing and repairing basic faults on ICT equipment and peripheral equipment such as MFDs (Multi-Functional Devices that provide print/copy/scan services), interactive whiteboards, screens, projectors etc. and ensure that these are always in full working order
- Supporting the ICT team in ensuring that ICT teaching rooms are checked for damage and missing equipment daily, and that a full log is maintained of outcomes
- Installing and testing software and configuring machines.
- Setting up and maintaining AV equipment for assemblies and school events, including staying for evening events as needed.
- Setting up and maintaining user network and email accounts and removing where appropriate.
- Ensuring that all ICT and media equipment is fit for purpose and is regularly tested in line with Health and Safety.
- Other ICT related activities as directed by the Senior ICT Technician and Director of Corporate ICT.
- You’ll also be responsible for safeguarding and always promoting the welfare of the children.
Skills, Knowledge, and ExperienceQualifications
It’s about enthusiasm, not school results. In our experience the most successful apprentices are those who are driven to find out more about the sector, can be up front about what they do and don’t already know, are considerate, self-reflective, and impatient to learn the job role Experience
Whilst previous experience is great, we at Tiro are always open to wildcards. We’re not just interested in experience and qualifications; we’re looking for someone with the right attitude and aptitude to fit right in at the Generations Multi Academy Trust.
About you
We’re looking for fearless techies brave enough to be themselves, with enough self-confidence to be able to communicate with a range of different people. You’ll also need to be highly motivated, resilient, and able to think on your feet to help solve problems whilst remaining professional and respectful. This is the ideal opportunity for someone who has a genuine passion to work with computers and IT. To succeed in this apprenticeship, you’ll need bags of enthusiasm, be a fantastic collaborator and be hungry to learn
Even if this doesn’t sound quite like you, but you still think you could do a great job in the role, get in touch. We’re always open to wildcards.
Generations Multi Academy Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Employment will be subject to a fully enhanced DBS check.
So how does the apprenticeship work?At Tiro we’re obsessed with changing lives through science and technology apprenticeships so we can’t wait to have you on board.
Over 18 months, you’ll devote a minimum of 6 hours of your working week on ‘off the job’ training. This can include theory training (for example, virtual lessons & online learning), alongside practical training (for example shadowing, mentoring, & time spent writing assignments. Together this will count towards a Level 3 Information communication Technician apprenticeship. You’ll be trained by an expert tutor from Tiro as well as an experienced mentor at Generations Multi Academy Trust, who together, will make sure you develop the knowledge, skills, and work habits you’ll need to succeed in your career.
Being an apprentice is hands-on, so you’ll get the chance to learn things you might otherwise not have experienced in a university or college environment.
The best part? You’ll be earning a salary while you gain your qualifications, meaning no huge student loans to pay back at the end of the programme
Want to know more. Check out the apprenticeship standards here.
Eligibility While we never want to hinder your job application process with obstacles, there are some minimum requirements you’ll need to meet in order to do an apprenticeship, these are rules set by the UK Government. You’ll need to be over 16, not in full time education, have lived in the UK for 3 years and have the right to work in the UK. If you don’t quite meet these minimum requirements yet, let us know you’re interested here and we’ll get in touch to discuss this further with you. We're Tiro (pronounced ‘Tea-ro’ as in white, two sugars).
In Latin, it means novice, recruit, apprentice, beginner and soldier. The perfect name for a company that’s been helping fearless apprentices to join ambitious businesses since 2005.
We believe that great apprenticeships help everyone. There are remarkable apprentices out there just waiting to be found, and fantastic employment opportunities waiting to be filled.
Our work will never be just about getting bums on seats and pocketing our commission. In our own small way, we’re helping to change the world – finding people that are working on COVID vaccines, finding new ways for technology to help humanity and helping to tackle the big issues of the day, like climate change. As well as helping people – young and old – to find their way.
