An opportunity has arisen to join the team of dedicated and professional staff in the Catering Department within East Lancashire Hospitals. You will be responsible for preparation, distribution and service in all aspects of food production to patients, staff and visitors and any associated duties, ensuring the correct and economical use of materials and equipment. The post holder will be able to work without supervision.
You will need to possess good verbal and written communication skills, Must adhere to quality standards and have the ability to maintain a quality service.
You will be highly trained and skilled and able to tackle anything that arises and we demand the highest of standards from our staff in return you will be paid well, have excellent working conditions and work in a caring and efficient organisation.
You will need to be highly motivated to meet the challenges that lie ahead. You will need to be able to work well either within a team or individually and make sound judgments whilst carrying out your duties and adapt to the needs of the service.
Main duties of the job
The post demands flexibility, the post holder may be required to work on other sites within ELHT and also to meet the changing demands of the service.
Type of Candidate:
Proven ability to understand and comply with detailed procedures
Proven ability to organise and prioritise own workload and follow written instructions
Adhere to quality standards. Organise and plan own daily work routine to strict timetables.
Ability to cover in the department and provide reasonable flexibility in terms of hours worked. Bank Holiday working will be required within the Hospital including Christmas and New Year.
Willing to adapt to the changing needs of the service. Work well in a team and be supportive of team members. Be of pleasant personality; be honest and have an understanding manner.
Demonstrate ability to undertake Training as identified by the Trust. Able to take on board new ideas knowledge and skills whilst remaining flexible
Be able to operate electrical machinery and to observe and comply with legislation and Trust regulations i.e. Health & Safety.
Proven ability to keep information confidential. Able to take instructions.
Able to use own initiative and work without close supervision within agreed protocols

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
General Duties will include:
Food preparation, cooking and serving of food, checking food for correct temperatures. Ensuring full compliance with HACCP systems with the Catering department. Quality control sheets are recorded and stored correctly. Responsible for ordering, receipting and storage of stock and goods. Maintaining a clean tidy and safe work area, ensure that cleaning schedules are maintained, monitored and recorded.

Person specification Attainments Essential criteria- Catering Experience
- Ability to work quickly and accurately. Must be able to operate electrical equipment and to observe and comply with legislation and Trust regulations such as food hygiene and health & safety.
- Must be able to adhere to quality standards, departmental procedures and the Patient Services Charter
- Must be able to achieve and maintain standards
- Basic Food Hygiene
- Possession of the I.E.H.O. Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate or equivalent
- Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate or equivalent qualification.
- GCSE English & Math or equivalent.
- NVQ Level 3 in professional cookery or chef qualification or equivalent qualification.
- City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3 or equivalent Advanced Food Hygiene Certificate.
- NVQ Level 4 Knowledge of a computerised catering system or equivalent qualification.
