Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Specialist Medicine Therapy team for a Generic Therapy assistant at the Royal Derby Hospital. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motived individual to join our friendly team.

The Specialist Medicine therapy team provides in-patient therapy cover to the respiratory and high dependency unit, cardiology, coronary care unit, renal unit, endocrine and diabetes, and gastro/hepatology.

This role includes working alongside occupational therapist and physiotherapist to develop effective treatment plans for patients. To assist in the treatment of an individual or group of patients, without being directly supervised by a therapist. Such tasks include assisting the patients with functional activities of daily living, including washing/dressing/undressing, kitchen assessments, supervising/teaching exercises, treatment programmes, preparing patients for treatment and assisting patients in the regaining of movement and mobility to increase their independence.

There will be a number of non-clinical duties such as clerical or housekeeping tasks, which aids the efficient running of the department. You will be an excellent communicator, team player and have a basic working knowledge of IT packages.

Main duties of the job

To work under the supervision and direction of the qualified staff in the performance of specific tasks for an individual or group of patients, as part of their treatment and rehabilitation programmes.

Such tasks may include assisting the patients with functional activities of daily living, including washing/dressing/undressing, kitchen assessments, supervising/teaching exercises, treatment programmes, preparing patients for treatment, assist patients in the regaining of movement and mobility to increase their independence.

To be responsible for organising and planning own caseload to meet patient priorities and service needs. Readjusting plans as situations change/arise and be prepared to provide cover for different areas should the need arise.

To undertake any clerical duties as necessary. This may include stock control, registration of patients, reception duties, filing, and dealing with telephone calls.

Maintain admin systems for walking aids and other equipment ordering and loan. Being responsible for stock control of equipment, ordering stock as required and liaising with Medequip.

Awareness and understanding of sensitive information, ensuring strict confidentiality at all times.

Use of IT applications to monitor, prepare and validate databases as appropriate.

To actively participate in regular team and departmental meeting.
