Job Details
Who are we

Humankind is one of Englands most successful home-grown charities. We provide free, confidential support for alcohol, drugs, housing, or mental health in friendly local places across the UK. We are committed to fair chances for all and making sure everyone can access the help and support they need to realise their potential. By joining our teams of passionate individuals, you will be contributing to making this happen.  You can really make a difference by believing in our service users and their ability to make positive changes when they dont always believe in themselves.

About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for an Opiate Engagement worker to join Newcastle Treatment and Recovery which is a service made up of several key partners including Humankind, enabling the development of a peer led, recovery community. Providing a safe environment in which people can develop the life skills, and confidence to achieve and maintain recovery and abstinence from their substance misuse, successfully re-integrate into society, and become active, contributing citizens. The Opiate Engagement Worker will work alongside the harm reduction service and in the community with the assertive engagement coordinators to try and engage individuals outside of structured treatment who are accessing needle and syringe exchange and other low threshold interventions.  The post will provide additional operational capacity to support the current opiate pathways.

Duties can include:

  • Coordinate a proactive solution focused approach to service users identified as vulnerable, marginalised or hard to engage, providing evidence based harm reduction advice, interventions and guidance in an outreach capacity with a view to engage them in drug and alcohol recovery services and interventions.

  • Work in close partnership with the team to assist identified individuals to gain rapid access to advice/support/treatment.

  • Identify and target hard to reach groups including those unwilling to engage in services.

  • Work in partnership to carry out joint assessments, key working and interventions to enable individual service user progression from engagement, through structured treatment to self-sustained recovery

  • Facilitate service user access to treatment and community resources to increase recovery and social capital, supporting service users and their families to achieve recovery goals within their local community.
