North East, United Kingdom Humankind Full time
Job Details

Are you looking for a fulfilling role where you can make a real difference to people's lives? If so, we invite you to consider the role of  Peripatetic Worker within our well established, friendly Recovery Coordination team.

Newcastle Treatment & Recovery (NTaR) is multi agency team delivering drug and alcohol treatment for the residents of Newcastle. We pride ourselves on being safe, inventive, creative and have the needs of the community and service users at the heart of what we do.

About the role

We are currently recruiting a Peripatetic Worker to join our team at Newcastle Treatment & Recovery. Our team provides support for individuals who are experiencing problematic substance use. As part of the role, you will be working with our team to provide cover for roles in times of vacancies, sickness and high service demand. This may include working on duty, carrying out assessments, and covering roles such as Recovery Coordination in our various teams across the service.

Working collaboratively alongside the wider partnership at NTaR, key stakeholders, and external agencies you will

  • Develop knowledge of the various teams at NTaR including Adult, Children & Young Adults, Criminal Justice, Prevention & Engagement, and Harm Minimisation so that you are able to cover across sites and teams when needed.
  • Hold a caseload of service users when required and in doing this, develop and deliver quality programmes and packages of work / psychosocial interventions that meet local need.
  • Offer tailored guidance in minimising harmful behaviour and, if required, support those into service should they need more substantial support.
  • Support delivery of key service functions through actively participating in drug screening, duty work, access to BBV testing and immunisation service provision, prescription management, community needle exchange services and the ongoing delivery of appropriate, tailored alcohol and drug harm reduction interventions.
  • Take a whole person holistic approach, ensuring that every clients package of care encompasses all areas of their wellbeing, not just their substance use, to achieve the best possible outcomes for every person.
  • Maintain accurate records and work in accordance with organisational guidelines and procedures.
  • Use good communication skills to liaise with third party organisations and teams within the wider partnership at NTaR.
  • Promote visible recovery across the service and ensure peer support opportunities are relevant and accessible for all service users.

For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Kevin Kiely via email at

The salary advertised above demonstrates the full earning potential for this role, starting salaries will allow for pay progression within the pay band.
