Purpose: As a true HR generalist, you will provide HR leadership across the directorate(s) you are aligned to, working collaboratively, and taking an active role in the Senior Leadership team. You will make a professional contribution, supported by colleagues across People Group, to the development and delivery of a proactive, effective, high quality HR service, that enables the delivery of AQA Group Strategy

Landscape: Within a reasonably sized People Group team you will operate as part of the people partnering team. The people partnering team are aligned to particular areas of the business and are supported by dedicated People Advisers and an Employee Relations team.

Activities:
Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and leaders in the business. Support the delivery of the business agenda and HR plans. Use existing knowledge and skills to make an impact when advising business managers to help enhance people capabilities and performance culture. Support organisation design and development across the business area, commissioning and directing additional expert resource where necessary. Develop and operationalise a good understanding and knowledge of available business data to provide critical business insight, challenge and advice to business areas and teams. Coach and drive a culture of empowerment and accountability within senior leader communities. Take individual responsibility and be accountable for the delivery of initiatives or projects. Regular travel will be required, occasionally necessitating overnight stays.
General responsibilities
To comply with all AQA Group policies and other legislative requirements, including but not limited to HSE, Equal Opportunities and ISMS. Where business needs change, to undertake other responsibilities which are of a commensurate level outside the terms of this role profile.
Accountabilities:
Contribution to, successful delivery of, and effective implementation and evaluation of the People Plan for the business area.
Effective HR service delivery ensuring that all areas of responsibility meet the needs of the business area and receive positive customer feedback.
As a member of the HR Leadership Team, contribute to the wider organisation strategy and work effectively with other key stakeholders on strategic projects.
Effective working relationship with Union representatives and a healthy employee relations climate.
The provision of timely and comprehensive management information which supports decision making and informs AQA Group’s strategic direction.

Decision making:

Provides direction guidance and coaching to business area Senior Leadership Team, People Group and People Services Teams, where appropriate, in order to achieve high performance and quality delivery across the business.
Contracts expert resource to deliver strategic transformation change and oversees this process to drive quality delivery.
Responsible for maintaining business relationships with recognised consultative bodies, where appropriate, in support of employee relations as and when required.
Complexity:
Pragmatic and results driven approach to managing high profile agendas in conjunction with People and business leadership teams.
Manage a collaborative relationship with People Services, Recruitment teams and L&D, escalating where this model is not delivering.
Build and manage collaborative relationships with internal and external partners and suppliers to ensure costs are minimised and controlled and a healthy employee relations climate is maintained.

To be successful in this role, you will need:
Substantial knowledge and generalist experience in HR covering a breadth of activities and best in class HR practices and policies.
CIPD qualified.
Experience of working with managers on the analysis of grade and skill mix as well as job design/local workforce planning.
Demonstrable change management, coaching and consulting skills.
Professionalism with a proven ability to navigate across functional disciplines and operate in matrixed business environment.
Quickly establish credibility and respect and build strong working relationships.
Be a team player, willing to support other People Partners, wider leadership team and other teams across People Services.
Demonstrated commitment to learning through continuous educational development.
Leadership skills: Set challenging targets and support colleagues to achieve them.
Manage performance of colleagues effectively.
Work flexibly and adapt management style to get the best performance from colleague experience.
To have significant experience of providing generalist HR advice and support.
