The Role

This position supports Countermeasures Flight (CMF) in the development and validation of Airborne Countermeasures (Air CMD&V) to advance aircraft survivability. The position provides technical, operational and project support to Air CMD&V activities, which include test point and test plan development for field and synthetic trials, post-trial data analysis, post activity reporting and contribution to annual and regular reporting within the Flight, Unit and Directorate.

This position ultimately provides an enduring knowledge base beyond the churn of the ADF posting cycle and spans all aspects of Air CMD&V tasking, activities and reporting. The CMF APS6 Technical, Analytical and Project Support Specialist will be part of a multi-disciplinary team of ADF, APS and industry personnel, and will provide broad ranging technical and administrative support to CMF and the Air CMD&V program. As an ongoing APS member, you will become an enduring knowledgeable professional, contributing to and supporting the Flight and leadership team.

The role will provide direct and indirect support to the CMF Flight Commander and Engineering Leads, and will include:

Provision of technical support and the development and sustainment of Air CMD&V lab and field equipment; Pre-trial test point and test plan development; Coordination and attendance at domestic and international field and synthetic trials; Post-trial data reduction and analysis, and contribution to post activity reporting; Contribution to regular Flight and Unit reporting such as the Flight’s Master Plan and Annual Report; Development and review of internal and external manuals, instructions and briefs; and Internal and external liaison with partners and stakeholders to develop and maintain long-term relationships.
Duties include: 

Maintain, setup, configure field trials support equipment and measurement systems, including power generation, MECC trials cabins, ICT infrastructure, tracking mount assemblies, data acquisition systems and scientific equipment such as radiometers and spectrometers; Maintain equipment configuration baselines and perform measurement system calibrations prior to and post-trial activities; Lead and provide in-field technical management and operational support to Air CMD&V trial activities. These are typically conducted in remote locations and regularly span many weeks; Provide analytical support and conduct analysis of measurement data using bespoke software tools and computation environments; Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders via written reports, correspondence, discussions and presentations; Participate and/or coordinate working-group meetings and action outcomes; Continuously evaluate, learn and build knowledge of Air CMD&V initiatives and capabilities to train, advise and positively influence engineering discipline Leads and the Chain of Command; Contribute to and draft instructions, written reports and correspondence; Investigate and contribute to all aspects of future capability development projects; Support and enable specialist contractors and actively contribute to the technical development of new measurement and analysis capability; and Foster and maintain strong relationships with external service providers and national and international partners through clear communication, persuasive discussion, teamwork and professional bearing.
About our Team
The Joint Electronic Warfare Operational Support Unit (JEWOSU) is Air Force’s Electronic Warfare (EW) centre of excellence, providing EW and Airborne Countermeasures products to maintain the operational relevance of the ADF fixed wing aircraft, helicopters, ships and submarines.

Within JEWOSU, Countermeasures Flight (CMF) is a multi-disciplined team consisting of Army, Navy, Air Force, Australian Public Service (APS) and Specialist Contracted personnel who perform Airborne Countermeasure Development and Validation (Air CMD&V) to assess, understand and enhance Air Platform Survivability and ensure Mission Success.
