Stockport NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit 2 qualified nurses to undertake the new Specialist Community Public Health Nursing Apprenticeship in School Nursing on a full time basis. (See Terms and Conditions)

Stockport School Nursing Service is part of the Women, Children and Diagnostics Business Group of Stockport NHS Foundation Trust, and is also integrated with Stockport Council as part of Stockport Family and One Stockport Family Hubs. We embrace restorative practices and relational leadership within our daily work, emphasising the human first professional second ethic. The service holds corporate membership of SAPHNA for all qualified staff to support learning and development and aims to be an innovative and inclusive employer. Stockport Family works collaboratively across professional disciplines in order to improve all outcomes for school aged children, young people and families.

Main duties of the job

School Nurses are part of One Stockport Family hubs working with all partners around the school child, young person and their family. During the apprenticeship you be delivering evidence based interventions as per the Healthy Child Programme 5-19. You will be expected to work on your own initiative at times as well as under direct supervision of your Practice assessors and supervisors. As an apprentice you will:

Work alongside the Practice supervisor and Practice Assessor to develop enhanced skills in Specialist Public Health Community Nursing. You will also be supported by out Practice Development and Education lead as required and have the opportunity to attend student support forums.

Complete SCPHN Apprentice course at level 7 . Meeting the required Apprenticeship Standards, University Academic Standards and the NMC Standards for qualification.

The apprenticeship programme combines and integrates both academic and work-based learning through close collaboration between employers and education providers.

Whilst an apprentice you will retain your requirement to adhere to the NMC standards for registration and practice as a registered Nurse, ensuring the safety of clients and staff and acting as a role model to others.

Be a reflective practitioner working within your own capabilities utilising evidence based practice.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The apprenticeship is an opportunity to join the service at an exciting time as we continue to develop along our integration journey within Stockport Family and move into our One Stockport Family Hubs. Our aim is to meet our Communities Health and Wellbeing needs within their Community. We are working closely with the council and education to embed existing strategies and develop new ways of working as a multi-agency team to promote the health and wellbeing of our school aged population

Stockport has well established skill mix team within School Nursing consisting of Specialist Community Public Health Nurses (School Nurses) Staff Nurses, and School Nurse Assistants who together deliver the Healthy Child Programme 5-19 along with colleagues in Stockport Family and the wider health care services in primary and secondary care, voluntary/3rd sector agencies. The service is also working with colleagues to develop multiagency pathways to ensure delivery of the Healthy Child Programme and support closer service integration through Family Help and Family Hubs .

The successful candidate will require excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to be adaptable, reliable and approachable whilst working across integrated teams. In addition, you will need to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of issues affecting our SEND Community, children, young people and families within the community and how School Nursing Services work with families to promote health and wellbeing.
