South West London and St George's Mental Health Trust (SWLStG) is committed to the unique value that people with lived experience of mental health issues bring to the quality of mental health services we can offer within our Trust. We are currently advertising for a Volunteer Involvement Coordinator who has experience of working alongside volunteers and is passionate about improving and developing the impact volunteers can have within our services.
We are seeking an established leader who is experienced in overseeing and developing improvement initiatives and who are able to use the wisdom of their personal lived experience of accessing mental health services or caring for someone who has accessed services to lead the volunteering work stream of the Involvement Team
Alongside experience in developing and delivering support to volunteers, you should also possess excellent understanding of mental health and its impact on individuals, families and our communities. You will possess exceptional communication skills high levels of attention to detail, drive and commitment to developing a range of high-quality initiatives that meet the needs of our services and of the volunteers providing their time to our organisation.
Main duties of the job
To lead on the best practice recruitment, training and supervision of volunteers To lead on the development of effective systems, policies, processes and a clear pathway for volunteering as a dedicated workforce who support and enrich our services The ability to work autonomously and at pace to tight timescales To be Deputy Team Leader acting up in the absence of the Project Lead To provide supervision to volunteers and/or paid staff working within the volunteering workstream To maintain a vibrant & diverse pool of involvement volunteers, across all 5 service lines Through sharing the wisdom of their own lived experience, the post holder will inspire hope and belief that recovery is possible in others. Using leadership skills to act as a role model for junior peers To facilitate and support information sharing and exploration of shared experiences based on peer support values To liaise with the Trusts' clinical staff to develop and improve placement opportunities for volunteers that maximise positive patient outcomes To liaise with external partners to raise the profile and promote volunteering at SWLSTG and expand volunteering opportunities within the communities we serve To contribute to the wider work of the Involvement Team as required, including application of the principles of coproduction and involvement within the volunteering workstream

Our largest, 19-ward site is in Springfield Village, created following our £150m investment into two new world class mental health facilities. A 32-acre public park, shops and cafes are now opening. Springfield is close to shops, cafes and Tooting Bec on the Northern Line plus Earlsfield and Tooting rail stations and bus routes.

Service Improvement
To develop strategies, processes and policies that promote best practice in recruiting and supporting volunteers and assist clinical staff in providing a positive experience for our volunteers. To work with service user and carer networks, local communities, professional bodies, and voluntary organisations among others, to recruit involvement volunteers and to identify potential placement opportunities To provide individual, group support and opportunities to feedback to people who volunteer within our Trusts services. Maintain and develop the volunteer induction programme, including coordinating and delivering regular induction days. To ensure involvement members who volunteer undertake any relevant training that will help to support them in their role. Provide day to day advice and support to volunteers and placement providers. This includes mapping out suitable activities and opportunities within the Trust.Communication
To be a designated Deputy to the Team, taking on all operational management duties and budget responsibilities in the absence of the Team manager To work closely with the senior management teams for each service line to identify promote and support involvement / volunteering opportunities. To keep in regular contact with involvement volunteers and co-ordinate regular feedback sessions with involvement volunteers. To assist with the planning and facilitation of networks and meetings as required. To prepare appropriate public/marketing information, including update of the external and internal websites. Ensure the smooth running of involvement volunteering, to include updating and liaising with Human Resources, Service lines, Partners, Stakeholders, Volunteers, Management, and other relevant agencies and departments. To provide ongoing support to ensure the success of involvement activities/ volunteering opportunities. To maintain accurate data including overseeing the volunteer database (currently ASR) and the provision of regular monitoring and/or update reports to NHS England and for Governance within the Trust. To work closely with the senior management teams for each service line to identify promote and support involvement / volunteering opportunities. Using feedback and experiences to inform learning and improve clinical work, whilst protecting peoples confidentiality With direction from the Deputy Head of Coproduction & Involvement - to represent Involvement at relevant public and policy events, conferences and seminars. Contribute to continual safety and quality improvement activities whilst using available resources effectively and efficiently. Demonstrate an awareness of the audit process within the clinical governance framework and the relevant standards that are required and monitored within the team. To provide individual and group support and supervision to involvement volunteers and/or workstream staff. To facilitate involvement volunteer training sessions To ensure involvement volunteers undertake any relevant training that will help to support them in their role. To assess the needs of services and service users and match involvement volunteers appropriately. Provide day-to-day advice and support to involvement volunteers. This includes mapping out suitable activities and opportunities within the trust. Utilise supervision and appraisal sessions with line manager to prioritise and evaluate work, receive feedback and assist with own personal development Participate in training as agreed with the line manager. To provide effective guidance, supervision and development reviews for involvement volunteers. To deputise for the Involvement Project lead as / when necessary. To supervise / line manage junior staff as directed by the Deputy Head of Coproduction & Involvement. To contribute to events that support and promote the Lived Experience Workforce at SWLSTGs. TRAINING & QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
Good standard of education with a relevant qualification (equivalent to A level standard) / appropriate portfolio of training in community and / or health, social care or a related field Mental health related qualification mental health first aid; coaching. Significant experience working in a mental health organisation or with individuals with mental health issues
Desirable
Relevant professional qualification registered nurse / AHP/ Social Worker Or Equivalent working experience supervising/managing volunteers in health/social/3rd sector Leadership/management qualification
EXPERIENCE
Essential
Lived experience of mental health issues or caring for a person with mental health issues Experience of managing and developing a project or service Experience of day-to-day operational experience of managing a team including supervision of others Prioritising, planning and organising own and others tasks Experience of dealing with difficult situations and confrontations Data entry, reporting and/or monitoring experience Recent experience of working in the mental health sector at band 5 or equivalent Experience of working with people who have complex physical &/or emotional wellbeing needs that require a diverse range of services or support.
